I am interested in just a bumper with no tire carrier. Can you send me some pictures and a price to build that? Thanks Andrew. 575-626-9996

nice job on the crossmember removal! did it put up much of a fight coming off? and your bumper is due back from the powdercoaters in a day or two and with a little luck I might have it all ready to bolt on, crated up and out the door by this Friday.

I can absolutely build a bumper without any swingouts, with a 2" receiver and all powdercoated for $1000 (in the raw/bare steel -$150, no receiver -$50)

Any pics of that?

It was really easy. I had seen the cuts you made in a previous post, and did the same. My sawsall and angle grinder made quick work of it.

Thank you for posting the good pictures. It took the intimidation out of chopping the truck up...

I can't wait till it gets here!

I have not yet had a chance to build a bumper without swingouts for the 80 series, as soon as I do I will post one

Sean, bumper is looking great! Have a few questions for you:

can you show some detailed pictures of the various refinements you have made with the latest version? Stuff like how the hilift mounts (both points), how the basket mounts to the ladder, etc.

Are you using the 4x4labs spindles on both sides now?

Can the basket be mounted on the next rung up?

What type of material are these made from?

Can you confirm the weight of the bumper and each swingout? From a previous post it seems the weight is much less than other bumpers (e.g. Slee) so I wanted to double check that.

Would it be possible/practical/reasonable to make the swingouts from aluminum to same some weight?

And would it be possible to update the first post with current info like pricing, options, pictures, etc? It is very cumbersome looking through dozens of pages trying to find something. :crybaby:

Thanks for the advice and questions Eric, I appreciate the help.

according to my bathroom scale The bumper without swingouts and with 2 spindles welded in for a dual swingout setup is 82 lbs, tire swingout with highjack lift mount weighs 41 lbs, ladder is in at 30 lbs, and the basket weighs 21 lbs

I have been using comp 4x4's heavy duty spindle and hub kit on both swingarms for about the last year which is rated at 1750lbs and very similar to 4x4 labs but it is a little easier to work with, and uses a more commom bearing/race/seal/cap combo that is more common( top bearing 44649, bottom bearing 68149, standard trailer dust cap 1.97 od, seal od 2.56 id 1.75)

my bumpers are made from mild steel made in USA. I could use aluminum possibly for the swingouts I think which would cut weight by 2/3 but increase the cost by double at least I would guess. And then no need for powdercoat.

They are $1850for dual swingout, or $1400 for single tire swingout with high lift jack mount( -50 no jack mount)powdercoated black.

The basket can only be mounted in one position on the ladder in its present configuration. I have increased the wall thickness on the ladder to increase its rigidity, increased wall thickness on the side hoops to make them more dent resistant, I and am having all my bumpers epoxy primered to stand up better against harsh salt environments, I have changed the two bolts that secure the basket to the ladder from 7/16" 20 to a more common 1/2" 13, which in that size t-handles or knob-bolts are more readily available to make the basket install and removal wrench free. I have a new license plate mount that bolts on to the swingout stop. The jack mount has slotted holes on the upper mount to give its position some adjustibility to account for all the tire sizes.

Definitely at the top of my wants list.

X2 ... once an 80 is in the stable.

Hey Sean,

You ever thought about changing the tire carrier to mount the tire up higher and slightly angled, kinda like how the tire is in this other bumper? If you did, would you sell just the tire carrier swingout to existing customer??

those are two beautiful rigs you guys have! I cant wait to join you on the trail someday soon!

I think your carrier has a little less angle than it does presently, I put it at about 8 deg tilt now, my idea on the height was to find a balance between departure angle, rear window visibility(which isnt that much) and minimize leverage on the swingarm hub, which takes on more strain the higher the tire goes. the ladder is at about 13 deg. by the way. the jack behind the tire does somewhat limit my placement options for the tire as well.

I can make you just another tire flange to swap out for your existing one. with more angle in it and can move it up about 1-2 inches possibly but I will have to play around with one to get an exact idea on the numbers.

I really like the way you mounted the shovel and other gear to the bumper, nice work! what size tires are those beasts running anyhow?

Thanks! Mine is the little dinky green 80 on 35s. The other monster is on 39.5s!

That sounds great, let me know what you can come up with. Swapping out just the tire flange would be ideal, as long as it doesn't interfere with the jack behind it. Let me know when you have some more ideas :)

Sean, what is the new square receiver on the tire swing out for? It doesn't have a traditional pin hole, but two small holes on the top side. Would this be for mounting a light?

That is there instead of the heavy receiver tube to save a few pounds of weight and not let water collect inside it. The receiver style pin hole did not hole things as tight as a nut and bolt could was part of my reasoning as well. The main purpose basically is to make it easier to get the tire on the mount, with a couple holes on top to give options to bolt on accessories, like a light, or maybe shovel, or something else?

Well you made it better than I even thought of. I liked the idea of having it there. Those spares are heavy, and it also helps from damaging the stud threads.

I got Sean's bumper last week, and I must say, it is even nicer in person. Nice clean lines and welds. Looks great on the Cruiser. Sean's a great guy too, very helpful. If you are considering his bumper, I recommend it.

Hey Sean the bumpers look super solid. Will think of you when I decide to step up with a more rugged bumper. Also nice you are on the East Coast as it seems most are West of the Mississippi.

Curious, what is that structure in the background of the bumper with ladder shot with the blue tarpaulin on top? Is that in your yard?

Keep up the great work

J
