Sean, that sounded like a very nice Vacation time! damn, I need one of those! :grinpimp:

How much shipped to 98103 (Seattle)? Is there an option to buy without the hitch? Is installation simply bolt on in that case?

It wasn't until I started to install mine that I realized that the factory original rear bumper is in fact part of the frame- an end cross member welded in place with bolt on wings to extend from the frame, giving the cross member a bumper appearance - there is no way to bolt on an aftermarket bumper unless the welded portion is removed.... its simply a dressed up portion of the frame... but, once that portion is removed- it is a fairly simple bolt on bumper to install. well built and I get plenty of compliments on it often...:D

The only bumper that I know of that doesn't require cutting out the rear cross member is the IPOR.

That crossmember does not help departure angle at all, and most bumpers basically do the job it was designed to do anyways (adding rigidity to the backof the frame) so who needs the extra 35lbs? removing it is a pretty big job for the average Joe too, and going back to stock is not going to be very easy( or inexpensive either) maybe when I get my own 80 I can figure somthing else out, and I did finally sell the old Jimmy yesterday and I am in the marketfor a late model 80(or 100?), anyone got any leads around socal on one?

WOOT Sean is FINALLY going to get an 80!!

Don't rush your purchase Sean. Keep an eye in mud, and be willing to travel for it. I got mine in Sacramento and flew up to get it. If you buy from mud it might be 1-2k more than Craigslist, but you will save that much in initial maintenance buying from a member usually.

Remember, a 92 will have a different motor and tranny than the 97. You need to decide what you want first.

Best of luck with your searches!!

(On a side note, unless you plan on running 37's, I'd go with the 100 series.)

There is a big difference in the feel of a 92 compared to a 97 too. The 92 is a lot more basic and feels more like a truck the 97 had made it to the soccer mom era and it was sold in the states to suit them. Both are good platforms to build off of just know where you want to go with it. For me I do low dollar builds and got my 92 for the same price you are looking at that one for then sold every piece I didn't want off of it and built it up. I still agree it would have been cheaper to but through mud in the long run though.

This is general maintenance info and applies to all bumpers with swingouts, but figured it would be good to put here.

I recently took off the swingouts to regrease the bearings and I found the grease was badly contaminated while the bearings/washer/castle nut had some surface rust. I think I can salvage everything but the seals (was going to replace those anyway). I figured I could go two years between bearing clean and repack, but I was wrong. Now it wil be an annual thing, especially in a dusty environment.

I had a bit of a challenge finding the seals, so will document my findings for others.

The seal part number on the tire swingout was TCM 171255TC, while the part number on the basket swingout was TCM 13194TM. I found the best price and availability on these at etrailer.com. Actually they didn't carry the 171255TC seal, but had the equivalent part RG06-050. I think Sean uses the standard 4x4 labs spindle for the tire carrier.

Hope this helps

Deposit sent....Let the countdown begin!!!

Notice you got rid of the hitch mount on the tire swing out. Was there a reason for this?

The 2"receiver I was putting on the tire mount was originally intended to be a attachment point for some extra gear, like a shovel or bike rack or something else that could be mounted against the spare, nothing to attach to it ever came about so I stopped welding them on for a while, I just thought of it as extra weight with no apparent use so I canned the idea.
Recently I started thinking about it all over again and came up with something else that I think is easier to bolt things to and a lot lighter than the piece of receiver tube I was using before, I am going to try to make a shovel holder to attach to it one of these days, or maybe a jerry can mount if 3 cans in the basket is not enough

I will have a landcruiser one of these days, and thanks for looking out for me guys in the search for one, hopefully sooner than later I will find the right one

Hey Sean, you can buy mine. Best part, it already has one of your bumpers! You will have to come to San Antonio for it.

Sorry I'm sure I missed it somewhere, but whats the price for the bumper if I collect it?

I would love to get my hands on your 80, I love that truck! I am gonna have to put off getting one for a little while longer still

And I have a dual swingout bumper with the spare tire on passenger side at the powdercoaters right now due back in a week, iif it is picked up here in San Diego I will knock off $100 this time only $1750

Thanks everyone! and I wish you all a great 2014!!!!!!
