1. Year and model
1992 HDJ81 - from Japan to Canada (in 11.2019) to Florida (In 11.2020). 1HDT = 12 valves of Japanese diesel fury!
Purchased HERE, and after lots of dead ends, I hired a customs broker, and they got it "imported". First the USCBP, then FL DOT, then my local tag office.

3. Name of rig
PO called her the Banger. I guess it's a British term for an older well maintained car? Not sure if it will stick.

4. Mileage
230k KM

5. Mods.
-Unknown lift
-Aftermarket SS downpipe
-Awesome Japanese 3 piece wheels - 16x8"
-All lights upgraded in Japan
It passed Shaken inspection in Japan in 2019, so it had to be in decent shape then.
So excited I found one with the factory spare tire carrier. That was something I really wanted.

Mods to come:
-BEB's will be first.
-Then I'll do all fluids, and go from there. Let's see what breaks!
-I'd like to do a front bumper, just because this one is jacked up already.
-There's some light rust above the windshield and on the bottom of the doors, as well a little cancer at the back of one rocker that I need to address.

6. How the truck is used
Right now, just a backup / adventure rig. I've never intentionally gone off road in my life, so I gotta learn to WHEEL!!
She's already been to Key West and Daytona beach since I've had her. Long term plans include traveling the American continent, sometime in the distant future.
She had a lot of good KM's under the PO too! Vancouver to Montreal to South Carolina to Baja Mexico, and back to Vancouver!!

The only thing not quite right currently is the rear spare tire carrier has a pin to hold it open. It looks like that pin should have clips to secure it. Totally nitpicky, but does anyone know where to find the rear spare tire carrier accessories / spare parts?

Also, looking for stereo recommendations, as the Japan stereo does not work at all here. I understand speakers are challenging, so I'll research that some.

Never owned anything other than German vehicles, so I'm stoked to be here. This will be my 5th IDI Diesel, though!

2. Ian

3. Mr. Yamamoto

4. 225k

5. Two hella lights up front and a Smittybuilt side step on each side. The side steps will be coming off when the truck gets undercoated next month and eventually replaced with some rock sliders. Other than that is like a time capsule

6. I bought the truck last weekend down on Cape Cod and drove back up to Maine truck drives great. I did have about a cup of water drain on to the front passenger side floor halfway into the trip when I took an off ramp. I got a zip tie and cleared a bunch of crap from the drain area inside the wheel well. I’m waiting on my weather tech floor mats to come in before I crank the A/C again in case I have to pull the unit from the inside and clear it out from there. Other than that it ran great steady 75-80 on the highway. Smooth and no vibrations coming from anywhere yet.

Truck spent all of its days out in central California until this past July and appears to have been well taken care of. I believe the hood may have been repainted but everything else looks like factory paint.

I’m planning on daily driving and going through everything I can. I’ll start ordering spares and replace what’s needed as I get to know the truck. I am planning on flushing all the fluids and starting with a good base line. I’ll start with the power steering since looks like power steering fluid and not ATF. I ordered a FSM that should be here in a day or two. I daily drive a 1960 Land Rover in the summer on the small island I live on and have been able to do most all the wrenching on so hoping I should be able to the same on this rig.

I’ll be taking it out to the Alaska next fall then spend some time in the west so plan on getting it ready for some over landing but have some time to plan out a build and get to know the truck first.

Very grateful to this forum. A lot of info that helped me decide on this one when I went down to check it out before I purchased it. Looking forward to becoming a member of the community!!

I was pondering the idea of having something for the 80 series guys, and hijacking the idea from the 100's and 60's about a registery or picture album in the sticky section. So...here goes, hopefully we'll get it moved to the sticky.

1. Year and model
2. Name of owner
3. Name of rig
4. Mileage
5. Mods...if any
6. How the truck is used
7. Photo. again...small to save space :)

Yeah... if you look in the 60 registery, there is nothing really different between the two, but might as well give us something to do with our endless nights on Mud. Haha

This is not anything like the ROTW, this is for everyone and anyone who wants to show us their rig. Feel free to. That's why its here. Well...now anyway's.

I've owned many cruisers but finally purchased my first 80 this weekend. My bro was headed to Seattle to pick up a new frame for his D90 restoration so I hitched a ride to pick up this well preserved 94. I drove it home 975 miles without a hitch. It's bone stock, and nearly looks like it just came off the showroom floor. I may build it out for my son to drive so we can do some trips in the 80 and 200. Honestly I haven't thought it out much, just didn't want to pass one up this clean with cloth and no fake wood - my criteria in searching for one as my dad bought one new in 93 and that's how it was.

Not triple locked, yet.

5. Stock when purchased. Already added OME suspension; Cooper ST/Maxx 255/85-16 tires...to be continued
6. Long distance off road adventures.
After a decade of adventure with Dingo, our 1995 FZJ-80, I decided to seek out better mileage (12-15 on our best days). Working with Duncan Imports in Nashville, I decided on this, and was surprised at the condition...named Xena as she is beautiful and tough. As hoped for, I got over 20 mpg from Nashville to Texas, driving about 75 mph! Can't wait to get off pavement.

Picked this up 3 weeks ago on Craigslist, drove it about 3 minutes and purchased it before the rest of the people that were scheduled to show up.
Overall very good car, maintained well, interior leather is in good condition, no major rips, just some cracks. Needs a new carpet and the sunroof leak repaired, haven't figured out where the water is coming from. It's not the $10 part..I checked that today, it was fine!

97 FJZ80 x3 locked
176K miles
Fully stock, items planned: New carpet, paint rims, roof rack + overhead tent, remove running boards and get some sliders. Remove mildew/mold smell from interior, I already Ozoned it twice, but new carpet should help all of it. Power seat broken (driver), parts are in, need to fix it.
I am still a bit iffy on this vs. the 2013 GX I just got for overloading, I love the GX, but this thing feels like a beast. And, I don't feel bad if it gets scratched up.
long off-road adventures, especially discovering the western and north western part of the country!
