You wouldn't miss that awesome bass? The LC Console seems to make things easier, I'll agree with that! If I could get a source for used consoles (at a great price), I'd fix them up and sell them to the LX450 crowd. They aren't hard to make look new again. From what it looks like though, there isn't any abundance of used ones available.

SIGH, like an idiot I tossed my 80 console, I have been looking for a shifter console forevor in grey.....

Added in a hole for an accessory plug such as USB. iPhone, mini-USB plug. This way if you want to throw in your phone or iPod or whatever you can can at least charge it while its in there. You would need to cut a small matching hole in the plastic of the console but that shouldn't be a big I deal I should hope. ;)

This is with my metal shop now so its all waiting on them. I was warned that they got in a very large job so I've been pushed back a bit so its not going to happen right away. Sorry guys. Its moving forward just not as quick. I have quotes in for dual keyed-alike Medeco tumblers and some single Medeco tumblers. This will be the largest expense for sure. The hinges have been spec'd and sourced. Just need to order and cut when ready.

Well there goes the plan of turning it into a fish tank...

Got in my sample dual-keyed-alike M3 Medeco tumblers. These are the shorter ones. Looks like a winner!

Also got in my adhesive lined micro-suede liner for the inside of the LockBoxes. This stuff is going to be a pain to work with for sure. there are no mess ups allowed. Once its on...its on :(

I was just picturing a metal interior but I like where you are going with this.

The micro-suede liner is great but you're right, it's a pain to work with. A slight breeze from a distant fan and you've wasted it. I've been looking for a comparable product that has a forgiving application.

Just got the ComboLock in, man this is sucky. I'm sure it works fine but its too tall so it won't be flush with the lid so it will be exposed instead of hidden under a console liner. I'll also have to make a specific cam for it because it doesn't come with a height I need. Its Made in China which blows but its not exactly garbage, just not...well, nice. I need to hunt down other options if combo locks are that important to some of you.

I also got in the hinge that I might be using. Now that I have it here I think I may go up a gauge or two and make it at least 1/2" wide wing instead of 1/4". I experimented with the spot welding a bit by changing up the timing and proximity to edge. I suppose I should do that chisel test but if I'm doing the hinge under the lid then there is no point doing that test.

The one of these I received is very smooth and seems well built despite being made in China although I didn't have a Medeco to compare to. Maybe that is keeping my expectations down. :) I agree there is no good way to hide this and didn't try in mine.

Can you have the indention on your box be the right depth for your choice of keyed lock but have the diameter wide enough that this will fit in the depression? That way your single product will work for most keyed and combination style cam locks (the push button type are significantly larger than this one.) Other options would be to provide either (1) an optional flat lid which would accommodate any lock but wouldn't be able to be completely flush in any configuration or (2) washers or nuts that could be stacked in the depression to level it with the rest of the lid to simulate a flat but slightly thicker lid and allow most locks to be used.

I'll also have to make a specific cam for it {CombiCam} because it doesn't come with a height I need.
It {Medeco} comes with two sets of cams with one having an offset. At worst I will have to make my own cam at the offset needed or just elongate the tab on the lock box.
You had the same type of comment about the cams on both of the locks. Is there a common cam between the two options that you could modify your box to work with? Seems like making custom cams wouldn't be as cost effective when a tweak to the box can be made to work with standard products.

The combo lock option seems to be less and less likely at this point. It seems all of the combo cam locks I've tracked down are all variations of the same lock. There are two issues: 1) The width of the bezel makes puts it too close to the standard Medeco cam and means I would need to redesign all of the Medeco cams to work with the very few combo locks that are used and 2) the overall size of the combo lock is larger than any off-the-shelf die that is used so there is no possible way of making it flush without creating a brand new custom die. This is 6 weeks and my cost on just this one part is $850. So I'm dropping the combo lock option all together. Even if I made the flat lids with the DD cut out for the lock, it would still need to be spot welded to the hinge and lockbox. Yeah too much of a pain for something that I HOPE people actually want enough to actually purchase. If there is demand enough then I will go back to the drawing board for the combo lock.

And in other news, here is the 80 Series Land Cruiser LockBox. This is the final and I just got the costing for the metal work and just need a few more prices so that I can detail the price. For this I will need to do a GroupBuy I think because pre-payment will be required since its costing me so much to get these things made. Besides, I can't sit on 30 or more because too many feign interest :bang:

More details to come about the price, the GroupBuy, the medeco locks and the FEM locking lid to match. Until then, here are the final SolidWorks drawings for the 80 Series LC LockBox.

Sweet. I though about this over the weekend because I was running errands with all of the glass in the truck open, and wanted to be able to toss my phone somewhere secure. Looking forward to pricing!
