It has started to drip considerably, right now it loses about 1/2 quart of oil a month. Which doesn’t sound like much until you park it for a month or two and have a quart of oil on your shop floor.

Flex seal spray.

You can float a boat on that s***.

I always reseal the rear arch when I replace the rear main seal. Popping the rear main plate off not only insures not screwing up the new rear main by hammering it in but also allows you to reseal the arch which is the bottom of the rear main plate. 2 birds with one stone, but... requires removal of the transmission.

I decided to tackle reupholstering the seats and arm rests in my 80.

Went with Lseat bisque color leathers. Price can’t be beat. Did the driver seat but ran into a snag with the little door arm rests .

What staples do i use to connect the leather to the plastic?

Use a normal heavy duty staple gun with 3/16” or 1/4” staples.

Also use some spray glue around the edges before you staple it down.

I'm in need of a headlight for my '97. It doesn't have to be perfect as I only need the bulb retaining ring located on the back of the headlight, mine is broken. If you have one for sale, let me know. Joe

Feeler:

Since acquiring a 4runner and a 60 series in the last few months, my 80 series had become the red headed step child of the garage family. The time has come to move it out.

Specs:
1997 LX450
215k Miles
Triple locked

All major repairs completed in last 12 months with receipts.

The good:

- Engine runs good and smooth
-oil analysis has been done every 6-8 months and has come back good with no signs of potential issues.

Axles, Steering, & Drivetrain:
-Axles rebuilt, not including the thirds
-New OEM axle shafts front and rear
-Terrain Tamer birfields
-New 105 series roller bearing spindles
-Knuckles rebuilt with koyo bearings and OEM seals/ gaskets
-New OEM drive flanges
-New OEM wheel studs and new OEM knuckle hardware
- New OEM tie rod and relay rod ends
-New OEM brake rotors, pads, and remmaned calipers
-New OEM extended brake lines all around
-New Napa u-joints front and rear
-steering box currently is being rebuilt with 105 series center shaft and pitman arm ($600 in parts alone)

Armor:
-Slee shortbus front bumper w/Smittybuilt 12k/lb winch(synthetic line)
-4x4 labs rear bumper
-Metal tech sliders

Interior:
-Fully sound deadened with Noico insulation
-Brand new full carpet kit
-Lots of new and extra interior panels replaced with good condition pulled panels (oak interior is super hard to find replacement panels for)
-Wired with rear 100amps of rear aux power
-Wits end quarter panel accessory panel is on order ($300 shipped)
-Kenyan custom made seat covers. Rear covers fit perfect but front seat bottom covers need to be modified to fit power seats

-Like new (5) 35x12.5r16 Cooper ST Maxx tires (2500 miles on them.

- Frontrunner roof rack

The bad:
-Arch seal has a steady drip
-the paint is pinstriped and the passenger rear door has a small dent.
-driver rear door lock doesn’t work
-front passenger window needs the run replaced(have the part just needs installed)
-rear third randomly started dripping a few weeks ago
-heat doesn’t get super hot

All in all the vehicle is in good shape. It has been well used but has also been taken well care of. The paint is the worst mark against it. I’ve driven this vehicle all over the south and would drive it anywhere

$15k

I’m starting to look for a set of sliders for my 80. Has anyone had any experience with Rocky Road sliders?

I’m thinking about those or white knuckle.

Go white knuckle. They are offering a 10% mud appreciation sale right now. Got 2 sets now and going for a 3rd for the 40 soon.

White Knuckle Off Road MUD Sale

Have never heard anything good about Rocky road, maybe things have changed and they are better. Nothing first hand with them, but white knuckle is good people from my experience.

DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER ROCK ROAD
PURE F’ING GARBAGE. Do a search but they are far from even acceptable. Fit sucks. Require mods and are horribly under built. Zero customer seevice. And thwy know their product sucks and dont do anything about it but sell more. Id do the lil LCP rocker bolt on armor before those.

White knuckle is the way to go there

I am going to be in the market for an 80 Series, very very soon.

I am looking for a late model Toyota (not a LX450) which has been cared for, and well maintained.

It HAS to be :

White
Triple locked
Unmolested

The only mods that I’d be interested in would be a lift and tires. Trying to stay as close to stock as possible, but I might prefer a simple OME lift.

Interested in a later generation, as I at least need driver and passenger airbags.

Please be in the lookout for one, and let me know if you find one.

I’ve got just the one in my driveway...

...but you will definitely need two buckets, maybe a third bucket.

What is your budget? White Triple Locked late model 80s aren’t easy to find. I looked for quite some time to find mine and got lucky. If you aren’t wanting a built one it may be easier to find an unlocked one and then add ARB or Harrop later if you wanted then.

This is truth that the pill counter speaks.

1) triple locked. This term. Holy s***
2)so so so many nice 80s overlooked because they are not TRIPLE LOCKED
3)where do you plan on going that you need said lockers without a lift and such?
4)Have you ever driven a non lifted 80? Lord, not only do they ride horrible but theY are even uglier than usual

I want what I want, because I see it as an investment opportunity, and a way to have a reliable replacement for the 200 Series. Triple factory lockers whether you like the term are not, will bring a premium in the future when I decide to sell.

Andy, I am willing to spend money, if everything meets my criteria. I can be patient though, as we still have two cars to drive around town. I have cash on hand, and can move pretty fast, as far as if something comes up.
