Toyota recently decreased their OEM TRAD Japanese radiators by almost 30%. They are now very competitive with the aftermarket China/Thai stuff.

The 1993-1994 radiator (16400-66040, good 3 core brass) used to retail for well north of $600. It is now down to $$460.13 retail and with MUD discount under $350.

No reason to not go Toyota now for this critical application.

What about a 97?

Correct-- use the 1993-1994 radiator for the 1997.

In 1995, the 80 series received a 2 core aluminum radiator as a part of a cost cutting and weight reduction program to comply with DOT regs. Hence the change.

Fact...my 97 went through 2 rads in 115K miles before CDan hooked me up with a 93-94.

The 93-94 brass rad has 130K on it and it's still rockin'.

we got a Koyo radiator recently for the 80 and are happy with it - ~$200

Well i decided to roll the dice and fix my A/C myself. I want to do a bunch of stuff to the 80 so if i can save some money here & there i can do it all quicker.
I ordered all new Denso components.(compressor with clutch, dryer and expansion valve) . Thanks DNP for looking up the parts i needed and finding great prices while i was on vacation with the kids. $280 shipped.

I changed out the compressor, and dryer , heeding Rob's advice , i left the expansion valve alone.
I was pretty nervous doing this myself since i have never dealt with A/C problems before, and as of late everything i touch seems to be compounded by more issues caused by ... Well ,Me. (See rad issues above, Doh!)

Rob evacuated the system, tested and recharged it for me. Thanks Rob! Here are the results.. Drum roll..

Thanks guys, I was pretty sure it may leak especially since i dropped one of the O rings to the dryer.. like 5 times. I cleaned it as best i could and just went WTH and put it back on.

Just an FYI I got a Dayco Top Cog Gold Label brand premium belt for the AC pulley to crank pulley.I wanted to put Lexus belt on it but, Lexus dealership in town wants you to pay in person first before you can order anything... dumb.

Anyway it is just as quiet as the Lexus belts.

Never heard of a Lexus belt.

I've heard of 99332-10910-83 which is a Toyota belt for a Lexus Land Cruiser.

107 k on it. 850j and 863s, ARB winch bumper, safari snorkel. Seller said it had a locked up motor but when I got home last night(this morning) I was able to turn it with a breaker bar and then gently bump it with the starter. Didn't come close to turning it one revolution. Going to wait till I pull the valve cover and plugs. PO said he was driving it and it locked up and he drove on to his parents house???????? Friend who knows about cars said it was locked up. Thanks to Jeff and Kathie Old for checking it out for us.
