Looking sooooooo forward to HIH8! I couldn't do 7 this year, but went on my own in September. I saved Black Bear and Engineer specifically for HIH8 so I'd have some "firsts" to do with other enthusiasts.

Really looking forward to this myself. For those that have been. Are you on the trails all day long? Or back at camp by 2 and just hanging out? Any groups of fly fisherman that get together and try their luck during down times?

Depending on which trail you are doing that day it is more like getting back around 4. One of the day's options was a fishing trip.

There are so many fly fishing opportunities all around the area that you could arrive early, stay late or skip a run on a particular day to fish. If you sign up for the Clear Lake run, we typically spend enough time hanging out and eating lunch to get some fishing time in on that run as well.

So cool. Hope I can do something like this in my lifetime.
Just make like a sneaker and do it. It will be a pain to get there, it will be a pain to get your rig ready, it will be a pain finding the time and juggling responsibilities at home and work, but it's the type of pain that feels good afterward - like when you make it to the top of a mountain or complete a marathon. I will go again in a heartbeat to another location next year - nothing against Silverton it was awesome but I bought & am building my truck to show my kids the country and with very limited time off and only a couple of years left before they have lives of their own we need to hit Glacier, Alaska, Yellowstone, maybe Nicaragua, the list goes on.... After they are in college though, I'll be back to Silverton to do Black Bear!

Count me in then. (I was in anyways :D fishing or not)

I caught two of the biggest fish I've ever caught in my life at HIH7. It was a bit of a drive from basecamp but was totally worth the drive. They were monsters.

Might be time for me to finally go to this event. Will a non-locked, non-traction control 100 do most everything out there? I took my 4th gen last year and it was fine, but it has traction control and center diff lock.... the traction control didn't go off very much.

Yes, it will! I have a 98 LX with no lockers or traction control. Went over Mosquito, TinCup, Cumberland, Corkscrew, Hurricane, California, Cinnamon, Clear Lake, Ophir, Imogene and more without a single traction issue. Solidified my thoughts that a locker is largely unnecessary for anything other than Poughkeepsie Gulch, deep sand and mud. Stock cruisers can do any of the passes in the San Juans with no difficulty.

Nice to know. I think we will take the LX when we go back. It's been on mall/soccer duty since we got it, but it's about to get new suspension and fix a bunch of other stuff that's long overdue. Ready for it to be comfortable again.

Weeks have gone by and I am still too eager to share memories and photos from this awesome event.

The effortless hospitality and comradery from all who attended is an apt reflection of the quality, effort and vision of @bluecruiser, @paflytyer and team. You all made it easy and memorable for us and it is very much appreciated.

People Highlights :
- @aaronrules impromptu drawer demo that highlighted how woefully under prepared we all are.

- @CreasyBear 's Tent Maj Hal tour and realizing too little too late that he had the perfect "You park like an A_hole" stickers for cars parked at the end of a blackbears switch backs.

- Meeting @Austin Hot Shoe, his awesome wife Monica, them offering us shelter from the rain and karma repaying them with a sweet Dissent front bumper at the raffle.

- @mattafact, a small group and I performing camper awning repairs with a flat head screwdriver, mallet, dying hand drill with too much beer in our system

- My son insisting we come back because he had "the best week ever"

It was great meeting everyone.
Cheers!
Ed

Ed, you and our little group we became are a huge reason that HIH7 was as fantastic as it was for my family this year. I may be in a new job by then (which is a good thing!) and may not have the ability to take time off to attend next year, but I am going to make every effort I can to get...I didn't buy that camper on whim for nothing!

Dan is a personal friend, HIH7 member, longtime Land Cruiser owner, longtime TLCA member and one of the longest tenured officers of Rising Sun 4x4 Club. He and his family need our help right now. They're in the process of selling his 40 to stay afloat while Dan is in the hospital. They're keeping the 100 ;) Dan would help you off the trail and give you the last dollar in his pocket to make sure you could get home. Let's do the same for him. We're wishing him all the best and hope for a speedy and uneventful surgery and recovery. You can read his story in the link. Scary stuff.

Please give if you can.

Stan, is there an update on Dan?

REALLY want to make it to HIH8... is there an email list we can join for notifications when tickets are available?
There will be a HIH8 thread to follow when it gets closer.

Stan, any update on Dan?
