1st pic is just voltage on the battery.
2nd pic is the tester with a build in "test load" to see how the battery behaves (capacity) over 20 seconds or so.
In the 2nd picture the guy is pushing a button. The load is a big resistor behind that screen.
3rd pic is voltage (charging) on the battery with running engine at minimum 1000 rpm.
What you there is a special tester for batteries. Looks like this:

Spot on!! Great write up on that little trick of the trade ref: VR. I don't get down to Costa Rica on a regular basis so, I'll have to toast you later in abstention...

Added a new air filter this AM..Still no love on the VR. I'll post up some pics later.

I picked up this "carb cooler" sometime last year. Going to give it a re-hab for future use.

Put the "cooler" back together this AM. I didn't do any serious body work on it other than a light sanding, priming and shooting. Oiled/lubed the motor while I had it apart. Still a few pits, scars and blemishes remaining but for a "classic" like the mule the extra character just adds to the mystique. I'll start combing through the "hive mind" later to address mounting the cooler. I think, but I'm not certain, it's from a 78+. If one of the faithful has any suggestions on mounting and or a novel approach to wiring this little gem in I'd be most appreciative. I've read through one or two threads that paved the way previously but, I'm always up for any ideas "outside the box"....

Made a sojourn "up-town" this AM to NAPA for a couple cans of FLUID FILM. I hit the undercarriage with a lanolin bath. I highly recommend the product, not only does it work, but for those of you familiar with the "Scent of sheep", it'll take you down memory lane without the weird looks from your neighbors. I rolled around on the creeper for the application process but determined that for the photo OP I'd just throw out a teaser of the aft section just before I went to ground on the creeper again...On a serious note, and there's scant reason for that in this thread, it does work well beyond the $6 sheckles of the asking price.....

Any progress on the VR issue?

Yes, I've managed a hateful glare. No noticeable affect on the VR. I may switch to threatening gestures....

Others may benefit from your VR research, development and inevitable success!

Hateful glares and threatening gestures are not permitted on MUD, you should know this by now...

I think the mule has gone feral on me. It pays no attention to intimidation, ultimatums or menacing expressions....

I hate feral mules they remind me too much of me, but ultimately they surrender to my demands!

Bending, tweaking or otherwise contorting the VR has not effect. I've ordered a second VR IOT conduct a double blind study on the Mule. I'll plug in a sugar cube as a placebo and monitor the results....I better clarify this. Not one of those special cubes you get at a "Dead concert". An honest to goodness Domino cube. Don't want the mule going all psychedelic on me. I cant afford the Partridge Family paint job.

1st PIC a solid 12+ V at idle
2nd pic lights on and a steady 1000 RPM
3rd pic <12V

All bends are not equal. Last effort of the day (yesterday). I removed it again IOT put a set of feeler gauges into action. I'll post up more later. Too nice out today to fiddle with a reluctant mule....

Baffling!

Indeed^^^

Plan A, with new(er) VR in hand, is to start at the point of origin and work my way through the system. Plan B - Been eyeing the internally regulated route with more than passing curiosity....

I'm heading to my shop to see how the instrumentation and VR are behaving under load and vice-versa. I'll let you know my results even with pics.
