I recently purchased my 74 FJ40 and some information from the previous owner is a bit confusing. I wanted to get an unbiased opinion from someone who knows these trucks well.
1. What are the 3 bolts on the bottom of the carburetor by the driver side?
2. Previous owner says these are the original wheels that he never mounted. They are in excellent condition 15x7. I don't see any markings on them or any toyota inscription anywhere. Looks to me like they have been refurbished and they look a lot like my FJ60 wheels. Did the FJ40 come with chrome wheels? The spare is chrome and the grill is chrome. Was that an option back then?
3. What were the wheel options for a 74?

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

The three bolts on the intake are for an oil filter bracket.

Those are FJ60 rims

No wheel options in ‘74, only steel 15” w/hubcaps.
@Jdc1 Thank you for the info. Very helpful.

Can you please clarify about the oil filter bracket? My oil filter is on the passenger side of the block.

It is a carryover part that was on previous years before they changed the oil filtration system on your “f and a half” engine

There was chrome plated bezel offered in 74’ that may be an original because they were a muted chrome and not super shiny

The rims were not offered chrome in 74’ but were offered in later years for the 40

74 was market dependent on what rims… USA got mostly 15” with cap retainers … there was an option for rims without cap retainers… some markets got 16” rims … mostly split rim variation without cap retainers… I can’t recall if 74’ was a year for the 15” split rims or 16” non split rims but there were offerings on them but could very well been offerings in other markets

My 75 40 had a chrome bezel, kick vents, and an old school chrome push bumper that i figured was a Toyota dealer installed kit. The push bumper was fastened to the bumper with JIS bolts.

Looks like this one- For Sale - 1.5F Motor oil Filter Bracket - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/1-5f-motor-oil-filter-bracket.1373768/

Check the serial number on your engine, behind the distributor on a flat boss. Just because your truck is a ‘74 doesn’t mean everything on it is.
@Jdc1 my serial number on the engine is F565639

@JohnnyC thank you for your insight. Here are a couple of items I found in the box of stuff that came with the truck. Also, I noticed this bracket on the driver side. Do you happen to know what it is for?

The oem tool bag straps and hardware are no longer available. 73 to 75 40's

@pb4ugo Thank you! What about the round metal part or the bracket on the driver side?

I think I’ve got a chrome bezel in my parts box…. I’ll look around and see if I can find it. If so, I’ll post up on the classifieds.
@Rocky_LC Are you talking about the grille? Also, do you happen to have the little metal tab that holds the strap on the door handle where the screw goes in? Lastly, do you know what goes on the bracket in the pic? It is on the driver side in front of the windshield washer reservoir. Thank you

I can only comment on the straps. I was making similar but non stock straps a couple of yrs ago. It looks like the round thing has latches on it. Maybe post some pics flipped over.

If you're talking about the welded bracket on the fender, it might be for a different country, continent or model. Idk

@Jdc1 my serial number on the engine is F565639
AI answer-
The FJ40 engine with serial number
F565639 was manufactured in October 1974.
This determination is based on engine number charts for F and 2F Toyota engines, which provide production ranges by month and year. The serial number F565639 falls within the production range for October 1974, which lists F-563517 as the starting number for that month.
