not sure yetl...don't know the price on the rear upgrade yet...

deluxe twinstick kit $154, overhaul kit $145, JB Conversion 4:1 kit $600 (from AdvanceAdapters, $950ish bill)...front upgrade is $150 from Jesse....guessing the Novak at $350 puts the total at $1500. (good thing I had that gift cert ;) )

$700-900-ish cheaper than the Atlas....

Hurry up and finish and tell us the total price. I know I want to do a d300 next, just don't know if I want to go auto at the same time or shove it behind the sm420. The 420 is starting to give me problems and needs a rebuild.
Dang, I need some money :D

Safe bet is $1500 plus the up front purchase price....that varies a LOT. I VERY torn on the front output upgrade, and suspect I'll stall on that for a while...knocks me to $1350 or so.

IMO, anytime you are budgeting for an upgrade, take your estimate, double that as a final budget, and feel lucky if you end up under that :D

Woody, FWIW, I've seen more D300 cases split than either output shaft break.

Thkx Ed....I'll do the rear upgrade just cause, but likely not the front then....save a "little" $$ that way....

I was never able to crack a Cruiser case, despite my best efforts, so the D300 should survive nicely. Got a 3' x 4' sheet of 3/8" aluminum coming for the skid plate, outta get nice protection from that ;)

FYI, I am running 3/8" aluminum and Ed is running 1/4" aluminum and his is holding up just fine.

my free source didn't offer 1/4" ;) Good to know it'll hold up tho....got pics of your underbelly support structure?

None, Ed's is a straight unsupported piece and mine was put in a "Brake" and bent to clear my transfer case.

Neither has support.

kewlio...easy enuf then.....

hey, that chick in your avatar is hawt! ;)

Ed, have you seen any apttern to this?

Any year D300 case in particular that is more brittle than others?

I scored about 10 D300's in various states of repair a year and a half ago, to put together spare Tcases for friends, and also to rebuild / sell a few. The only pattern I saw was non-shorty output breakage. I only had two shorties though.

The 3 broken cases I got were all split in such a way that the back side of the case had come off the front to some degree or completely. One had clearly had the driveshaft droop beyond the Ujoint's max, and had ripped the case off. The other two showed no sign of overflexing, and almost looked like the case had been pushed apart. The internals were fried, so I don't know if they failed and split the case, or the internals went to hell because the case died.

The only bad output was toasted from flat towing without addressing lubrication issues.

How is the front driveshaft going to look ?

i have cracked a cruiser case on the street just dailying it.

I watched two stock d300 rear outputs pop on a 2500 lbs (approx) buggy, it
has gone through 6 total.

oh, holy cow on costs of your d300.

just curious but with that short front driveshaft, what about np203 range box in front of the d300? for the less then the costs of 4:1, then you could have also lost the sunray adapter $$$$.

all of which are reasons why it's not yours....

I have tried hard to break a cruiser case, can't do it....busted a front output shaft, 4-5 pinions, a few birfs, a few newfields, and a long, but not the cruiser case itself.

If I'd wanted a doubler, I'd have done the Marlin in a heartbeat...have a split case and mini case on the shop floor with no purpose....and the gear options with the Marlin make it my favorite doubler choice by far.

But, hand me $1000 of gift certificate to spend with AdvanceAdapters, and yer thoughts begin to change...IMO, this is an excellent solution with quality products.

203 is a fat hog of a doubler, only available 2:1, and would be one of my last choices behind an automatic. Had one of those too, with the rare SM465 adapter, and ditched it.

How is a 40" long front DS short??

I am assuming that you are going to run a 2 piece front DS woody?
