Kurt,

Are you looking the spare tire rack and the two brackets that bolt to the frame? Or just the brackets?

I have an OE tire carrier assembly and brackets, but decided not to use it with my build. PM me if interested.

The build looks great! Keep the updates coming.

Cheers,
Mike

Spare tire carrier

I don't believe the spare tire carrier will work with with a after market bumper. The handles stick out the back on the factory spare tire carrier and are in the way of the after market bumper. Not sure if I wasnt to try and source a factory spare tire carrier or use a FJ60 spare tire carrier like the later FJ45 used. If you use a factory spare tire carrier and no bumper this would be the correct license plate braket for a FJ45LP-B from the mid sixties.

FWIW:
Construction of the bumper makes a difference.
I have a '67 with an aftermarket bumper designed that allows the entire spare tire carrier; another has the ears/handles cut off the carrier to allow a different design bumper, which I scrapped.
The full carrier extends beyond the frame but stops about 2 inches before the rear valence.

HTH

How does it work with a bumper? I thought the handles were used to lift the spare tire. Even it clears the bumper it seems it would be hard to lift handles with a bumper in the way.

Agreed.
I prefer the crank-up style, but both styles have their issues.
The jerk who cut off the handles on one of these must've loved crawling in under there on his belly.

The one with the handles can be pulled up or lowered either overhanded or underhanded, as the bumper is heavy rectangular tube design with an inset hitch receiver cut thru and welded in its center. Looks like the rear license plate might've been bolted into the face of the bumper--no lights on it. Truck was used for search-and-rescue out in the Mojave.

Probably the frequently seen Conferr-type rear bumpers of that era would need the handles cut off or redesigned--have not seen one.

Folks using an under-bed fuel tank couldn't use either the early or later style spare tire bracket.

My guess is from looking at really rusted bracketry and chains under there, the spare tires weren't frequently removed. I remember the local Ranger having me help fix a flat in 2-foot snow, and crawling under there in the cold and mush with rusted hangers and padlocks was a real picnic. That taught me to keep good tires at all times. In her defense, rocks had fallen onto the roadway and couldn't be seen in the blizzard on the unplowed street, so no tires could have survived sharp punctures.

I've even heard that some of the new vehicles nowadays come without any spare tire, small or full size. Good luck with that.

Totally spaced off the license plate bracket, thanks for posting pics. If anyone has a lead there I would appreciate it!

Also needing an inspection lamp socket with the stud posts rather than the spade terminals. LMK

Update my list in post #1

Updated my top first post with current needs. Anyone found a source or repro'ing the rubber bumpers for the 45 tailgate/beds? What about the reflectors for the back?

Temperature control valve (mounts on F head)

Going through some parts in storage today and came across an early heater valve as well as other hardware from an early F engine. This and the other parts are from a 65 FJ45.

After cleaning it up a bit, I see that it is stamped with "FJ". Kind of cool. The knob seems to turn all the way in and out.

Still looking for one of these?

Yessir, I could still use one. What are you looking to get out of it dollar wise?

Send me you address and I'll send it out.

No idea what its worth, if anything. I see that Spector shows this part connecting to another fitting, not directly to the F head. Can't say for sure how this one was conencted on the engine. Took it apart too long ago.

I do need a later model fj40 heater control valve. Type that bolts to the firewall and cost an arm and a leg. :frown: About $75 I think. Anyway, if you think this is is worth anything, than a few bucks credit on other type valve, if you carry those, would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Oh, here's the SOR pic. Again, this valve looks like part 10, I didn't find 11 if I even ever had this part.

PM sent, I've got plenty of the #11 part, I just need a working valve. Give me a call next time you need some parts, I'll make sure we get you taken care of. Thanks!
