True.
The original drivetrain missing can be overcome, cosmetically.

The thing about 1961 FJ40s is this: Assuming it is true that only 249 total Land Cruisers were imported to the U.S. to begin with, how many people today are lucky enough to even have the opportunity to purchase a single one of those 57-years later?

You have a good point. Maybe I’ll keep it since it’s a 61 and update it a bit. I wish they never repainted it. The paint in the wheel wells was still shiny. It would have been a bad ass patina 40. I’ll have to snap some pics after I power wash everything.

That looks like original lily white? I don’t see any red anywhere? What a shame to part this out, super rare and looks to be very solid. As for the stamped bezel, a lot of repops out there so it brought the value of originals down. They used to bring $500 a few years ago.

I have had a 62 fj40 with hard top and it had higher door posts. This 61 does not have them unless they were cut off or the tub was swapped. Seems odd that the 61 would not have them but the 62 did. I also had a 62 FST and the tub for the soft top is completely different in the early fj40 years. I bring this up hopping a more knowledgeable member can share some history on the differences in early tubs.

All early fst had the rounded door openings until late 63 when they started offering fst with the hardtop tub. I think only late 62, 63 had the high door post.

I just went back and zoomed in on the photos and it looks like the higher door posts were cut off. This clears up my earlier confusion.
I have a decent 62 tub with higher door posts if someone is interested in keeping it origonal.

This one had the higher posts chopped. I wish I could find a set to put back on it.

I cut off a set of a 61 that the tub was rusted out. Sent them back east to a member who planned on restoring hos FJ25 FHT. Be fore that happened he sold it with a aftermarket soft top. Still have a 61 and 62 FHT, both still have their high B pillar.

The FJ25 fenders were different because they never had a turn signal. The early 25s only used to mount it to the frame. Later had four like the FJ40s. Later the bottom hole we're changed to long slots making it easier for one person to mount them. Early 61 FJ40s had the air inlet in the apron like the the FJ25. The my earlier 61 had it the later 61 didn't. The apron mounting bracket was the same on the early FJ40 as the FJ25. The location of the hold hook was further back on the ones with the apron inlet.

If you have those cut offs let me know.
