Yes, yes, I know this issue has been discussed to death over the decades. My 62 goes in and out of 4WD nicely on demand. Mechanic has even verified that.
New solenoids were put in.
But, regardless, the green 4WD light stays on and won't go off - even when it's truly in 2WD. I have to replace the 4WD push button anyway since the tabs are broken on it. Anybody have a new one? Or a good used?
And what is the 4WD Indicator switch nos. 1 and 2 that I've seen? It's a plug on a wire with the bulb. Could that be my problem??

30 second diagnosis: start the truck, confirm 4x4 light is on. Disconnect the plug on the transfer case switch and verify the green 4x4 light goes out. If so, then the xfer case switch is likely the issue. Remove the xfer case switch and actuate it / clean it out. If you're lucky then you're good to go. If not, replace it.

On my 89 the xfer case switch plug is light blue, switch is on the passenger side of the xfer case.

Plug on the RH side of this pic.

I'm not sure if this is what you're referring to, but the 4WD indicator is designed to light up when you either use the push button on the dash OR when you put the truck into 4L via the lever on the gearbox cover. The switch that controls the light is on the transfer case, but there are two ways that that switch can be actuated. Does that make sense?
