Do I need new accelerator pedal and ALL the linkage that goes to carb?

Is the only place to get that from used junked cars or is there after market companies?

I hope this is ready by the crawl. I've given up on weekend of 23rd.

I disassembled my whole truck and painted it with rattle cans....why?:
1. im cheap
2. didn't want to pay someone
3. rattle cans from lowes for $55
4. didn't make a paint booth bc of cost

6. i was so cheap I bought a truck with bad paint cause....you guessed it....im cheap

What year is this truck? Working from mammary here but the late 60's and early 70's trucks had throttle cable. Later 70's were linkage. I seem to remember that the later model trucks had to switch out to the cable style to run the Weber. What year is the Aisin carb off of?

truck is a 1976...I assume aisin is for 76....I took it out of the box to look at it once.

Mike has the truck with his mechanic so we will see how the webber rebuild goes

Are these soft door catches? Mike I also have a amby door rubber gasket for glass.

Rebuild the weber (or have a pro do it for a few hundred) and drive it.

If that doesn't work, put on the other carb and drive it.

Remember this thing is almost 40 years old and you are going to have to periodically fix things. That weber has probably been on there for 20 years. If you want a perfect DD 40, then sell this one and drop $15k. If not, enjoy the experience of working on an old car and learning how to wrench. I may get frustrated every once and a while, but each thing that goes wrong is a chance to learn something new. I had no idea what I was doing when I bought my 40 and couldn't even drive a manual transmission. These things are super easy to work on. This rig is a perfect around the town 40 that can be used on a trail. Even the turtle didn't make it to Hawaii without breaking down.

Don't forget to check the timing. It might fix your backfiring, and it's really easy to do. Autozone probably has a loaner timing light.

Not being cheap. Got a full weber rebuild kit being fedexed and hopefully have all the parts for the aisin install. Shush is not sure if the bottom gasket for carb was provided by whoever rebuilt it.

If I convert to aisin what do I do about gas pedal?

I may have one in AZ in my parts pile; no promises as of yet, though - remind me via PM to look for it next week if you want it - nothing wrong with it - the only reason I took it out was to install a handthrottle, and that required a handthrottle compatible gas pedal from Specter

Andy and Greg, Sorry if I have come across as complaining about the 40. I knew what I was getting into with a 6k 40 that was built during our bicentennial. I was not expecting as many problems out of the chute and thought they were intermittent not chronic. After talking to PO before Shush I have realized that this has been going on since 09 and no one has fixed it. I intend to, which is why I come to this forum.

Probably a good idea to prepare yourself for occasional systems failures. At least you'll be on the ground when they occur. In 2006 I drove Yooper's "fully restored" '82 40 from Vancouver Island, B.C. to his home in Michigan, ~2500 miles, and it broke down, twice. In a vehicle that old, even when you think everything is fixed, it ain't. That's just part of the fun of it.
