I feel like I should have better explained the truck before your purchase. I feel bad......but you gotta remember it was ALL intermittent bc I drove it sparingly and PPO had 5 other trucks. Ill buy it back for $4k if that helps

Probably a good idea to prepare yourself for occasional systems failures. At least you'll be on the ground when they occur. In 2006 I drove Yooper's "fully restored" '82 40 from Vancouver Island, B.C. to his home in Michigan, ~2500 miles, and it broke down, twice. In a vehicle that old, even when you think everything is fixed, it ain't. That's just part of the fun of it.
Lee, I will speak for Andy and say that was NOT meant as a slam on you or the epic adventure you and the Turtle experienced. It was simply a reminder to Mike to not get frustrated when stuff goes wrong on a 35 year old vehicle......we are concerned about his blood pressure and those FAA phsyicals.
If he can't fly he can't fix the 40 and that would just suck for all of us
Hey, I didn't take it as a slam. No worries here.
BTW, I spent a couple of hours Thursday afternoon in Laurel with Gary Walters and checked out his restored 40. If you haven't seen it, it's one of the nicest trucks around. He said he'd drive it to a Cottonland meeting later this summer, possibly the next time I'm in Laurel. He spared no expense in the restoration and it shows.

^^ yeah his truck is AMAZING. I have been pestering him to come see us. with family in laurel, drill in hattiesburg I am still ashamed to say I haven't gone to see him.
edit....those holes are a factory option jerry can deal. He left it off the resto but has them to put on.
Lee, I think he is restoring another now. This 40 "was for hunting" but it turned out to damn nice.

No, that is not a pre-restoration pic. The soft top is off, as are the OEM wheels and hubcaps. He's running 35x1250 AT's on alloys, just as you see in the photo. His 40 has AC and the hard top is on, or was on Thursday afternoon.
Yes, he's building a 40 trail rig, with a 350 V8. I didn't see it, yet.

This is probably the look you're thinking of, with soft top and OEM steel wheels. At one point Gary had his tailgate listed for sale, and I think the top as well. I don't know if he ended up selling but he does still have these wheels stashed away.

I too was looking for an Aussie and have been told anywhere from end of June to end of July for them to be back in stock. Don't really want to wait as my Marlin Crawler axle rebuild kit will be here in a few days and I want to take care of it all at once. So, I ordered the Spartan locker through a vendor (diffsonly.com) over on Pirate for only $255 shipped. I looked at the link that Jordan posted and even sent the OP of that thread a PM asking for info on how he likes the Spartan and got no reply. I have read some good reviews of this locker so we will see. But I figured for $255 I couldn't go wrong.
