We have missed you but now we have Smardis.

He’s 1/2 Shush/1/2 Mardis.

I don’t even know what to say. Is that possible?!

Sounds like a rough 2 years, that sucks I hate to hear that. There is a 40 out there somewhere waiting for y’all. Do you have a price range in mind? I know of A few but need to know your budget. Spending time with your kids is more important than anything else and it’s something you can’t put a price on or get back lost time. You’re on the right track, keep your chin up and let me know if I can help in any way.

@offr0adlim0 thanks Rob. Yeah it’s been tough but we are through the worst. Looking forward to exactly what you said... time with kids.

So $10-$15k. This puts the above list into unicorn status but I’ve got nothing but time and more money the longer I wait.

Hey Gents. I just spent the better part of an hour fixing my password. I guess it’s been a little while.

I emailed Grogan earlier and would appreciate any help.

I’m in the market finally and would appreciate any leads.

Truck wish list:
76 or newer
Color: sky blue, green or tan
Hard top
Little or no mods (maybe small lift and tires)

This is for the kids and I to fish, occasionally drive to work and tinker on.

I’m willing to pay more for a complete rig than one needing a lot of work.

Past 2 years summarized: got home from Syria, wife left, it’s me and the kids so.... yeah.

This truck is for us to start building good memories again. God has blessed us incredibly but when my son asked about “the old blue truck” (my 71) I knew it was time. He has kept at it for over 2 months so..... here I am.

Cheers

John
Dude... Man that's tough. Ok lets get the 40 and start getting happy again! You may need a trip to the Crawl to "shop" ;-)

John

Hey buddy, thought about selling mine...
Got mods and can be wheeled.

Mods galore but would be great rig.
PM me of you want info about it.

Welcome back John! Good luck with your search. Let me know if you need me to take a first look at any potential buys in MS or central/north LA.

hey yall, I think I have a bad input shaft bearing. Makes a good bit of noise when you release the clutch in neutral, and goes away when I push the clutch in. Have anyone replaced this? How many banana job? I reckon its just dropping the trans and getting the bearing off of the input shaft?

Can the input shaft leak? I have a pretty good leak going on at the inspection plate under the clutch. I cant tell if its the rear main or the input. Going to try and see if I can tell if its gear oil or engine oil. Gear oil in the transmission is crystal clear and brand new and the oil leaking is black, which makes me think its engine oil

I THINK I have a H42 transmission. Its a 4 speed connected to the orion case.

Side note... My headers seem to have a leak on a few of the pipes where the tube meets the header flange. My plan is to remove the intake manifold and spot weld them after I tighten the s*** out of them so they dont warp. Dumb idea? Im scared to take em off and weld them and have them warp.

Anyone got any tips to quiet down an external fuel pump? Foam or rubber pad?

feel like im going to be on here a bit, Lee Majors was trailered and a trail truck and I have been driving the living crap out of it and it gets up to 70 on the way to work. Its been 5 days and Im on my third tank of gas. Amazing truck, just need to get it a little more road worthy

That truck hasn't driven 70 mph in it's life I'd bet and if it's 70 on the speedometer then it's going way faster than that. Give that old rig a break. Daily 70 mph trips to work will have it leaking from every port. Your noise sounds like the throw-out bearing. Mine makes a little noise too. Gotta pull the tranny back to fix it.

easy there @dbbowen
You put more miles on it in one week than the last 3 years...

Check the oil.

Sounds like the pilot bearing. It’s pressed into the back of the crankshaft. Remove trans and case, then pressure plate, flywheel and use bread to remove old pilot bearing.

As for the oil leak. It could be the rear main seal. If so, you can do that when you do the throwout bearing if that is the source of your noise.

One other thing to try is to tighten up all your oil pan gasket bolts. When they get loose it will look like a rear main.

Grab your clutch fork and make sure you have a bit of play. Not sure the exact amount but it’s not much. Just does not need to be pressed hard against the pressure plate until you push the pedal.

Nothing makes a truck leak like sitting as much as that truck sat and then driving it.

Just take one thing At a time and enjoy it.

You need to get into the FAQ section in the 40 section and search. Google will often lead you there. Lots and lots and lots of info

Haha Ive been using GPS for the speed. I do need to take it easy on it though. Enjoying the 40 a little too much I think haha! Might try and do throw out bearing and Pilot at the same time if im already in there!

Good call. Just went out and checked, a little under dead center on the hash marks on the stick. Adding a little. Going to replace the PCV Valve to see if it helps the burning oil. My old 22re burned oil and the PCV helped a lot

So noise when in neutral, but goes away when the clutch is pressed in or in gear is the pilot? Might as well get in there and do the Pilot and the throwout so I dont have to do it again down the road. I have actually always wanted to try the bread trick so I guess its a good excuse.

Ill tighten the oilpan bolts tomorrow afternoon and see if that helps. Thats a quick and easy job. I think im going to try and make a list of things I need to do and try to knock out as many together as I can, so like I guess clutch, pilot throwout, and maybe rear main so I dont have to remove the trans again for a long long time.

I figured the truck sat for a while haha lots of little projects ahead. Thanks yall for the help!

Do the clutch, throw out, pilot bearing and RMS while you’re in there. The parts are cheaper than your time. You can borrow my transmission jack. Probably take you less than a weekend.

Snugging the oil pan works if you have good karma. Really, you probably need a new oil pan gasket. Same for the PCV. If you’re burning oil, it’s probably rebuild time. Don’t dig too deep. Just enjoy it and add oil for a couple of years. Put some cardboard under it in the driveway.

That would be awesome to borrow the trans jack! I’ll start gathering parts and whatnot. Really appreciate it cam!

Double checking... this is the PCV Valve right? On the mini trucks it’s on top of the valve cover.

Yep

You can clean it out with brake cleaner. If the little ball inside is rattling around, it’s working.
