Make sure you put a small air cleaner on the valve cover vent. Often overlooked and thus sucks right into the motor

Damn! Good catch, thanks! Ill try and see if I can find one small enough tomorrow. Looking at headers right now. Leak is getting a little worse and wife is complaining about the smell haha. Looking at these:

The manafree ones are way too pricey

It'll still smell. Add a universal high-flow cat to the exhaust and she'll thank you!

Yeah. That header is fine. Get a Remflex gasket. They are key.

Any auto parts place will have the little filter

Perfect. Ill stop at autozone and pick one up. Ordering the remflex with the header. Did you torque to toyota specs or the remflex specs on the header studs?

Good call. Had to add one of those to my old 4runner. Same deal. She hated the smell.

So I think next weekends project will be figuring out the turn signals. I have fixed the brake lights already, but just downloaded a Wiring diagram for the FJ40 and hope to figure out whats causing the signals not to flash. Flasher is clicking, and I checked one of the front wires and its getting 12 volts. I think its either got to be the hazard switch thats throwing it off or a ground somewhere. I would really like to fix the regular harness and not build a seprate circuit for the blinkers hah

Torque to Remflex spec.

I’ll bet it’s the front signals not grounding.

Very common. Pull face off blinker. Run a fresh wire to the metal housing with a self tapper. Fish it out the hollow stem With other two wires.

Ground it separate.

I also always run a fresh ground wire from battery to the body as well.

Oh man that would be so perfect if that fixed it. Would a ground on the front signals cause the tears not to light up also?

And make sure the exhaust exits
The truck behind the tire. Not straight back either

I think it exits right before the oem turn right over the axle. Thinking of turning a downturn to it so it dumps to the tire.

smardising (portmanteau aka sniglet), a gerund or participle depending on context. Meaning: see above. Also, failure to bring wife when picking up borrowed tranny jack.

Just messing with you man, we all get excited over new toys. (Guilty) You’ve gotten some great tech advice above. Just go slow and do bits here and there until you get it sorted the way you want it.

^ more good advice.

The typical Smardis approach to vehicles is to do everything at once and then sell immediately after :grinpimp:

The funny thing is I took it wheelin yesterday and it was unstoppable and perfect. It put my old 4runner and 80 to shame. The mods I need are things that seem silly like turn signals, and things to make it quieter and pleasant to drive on the street hah!

Learned that lesson the hard way. got the tee shirt. Trying a different route this time hahah

TPI unpainted Header will be here today. $200 to ceramic coat it seems kinda high. Should I paint it or just bolt it up? Maybe use some kind of high temp spray paint?

That sounds like the going rate to ceramic coat, but will look good for a long time and it won't scratch off during installation.

VHT header paint (get it at AutoZone) is cheap. 25% chance it will crack and peel when you fire it up. 100 percent chance you will scratch it up installing :grinpimp:

Yeah, might just need to bite the bullet and do it. I'm hoping it will make the air that comes in on the drivers side kick panel slightly cooler too. Wishful thinking

Think I got something to do with my horn wet in the water crossings... hah horn worked, now it doesnt. Maybe something rattled loose or isnt grounding.
