we couldn't use a sawsall at the time, so we pulled the axle shafts - you need to find the C-clip, which was difficult in my case since there was an ARB locker in there - but otherwise, it's not rocket science - (plus, I was able to sell the drum brakes later :D)

Angle grinder or sawzall as far as you can go. I used a cold chisel and BFH to finish the last inch or so. It's a lot of work, but I did not want to deal with the diff and C clips.

Were you able to remove with one cut or did you have to make two?

I don't like pulling c-clip axles either, especially if there's an ARB in there, but...

You could have those axles out in fifteen minutes or less since you already have the truck on stands and already torn down some. It would be a good time to slap in some fresh axle seals and you could get a closer look at the innerds.

Agree. Not that hard to pull and a good time to replace seals, etc

I can't remember. Sorry!
Old age sucks. My hearing is going fast too.

Pm orangefj45 and get the parts from Georg. Marlin axle seals.

If I do decide to pull the axles, and right now I guess I'm leaning that way...what parts do I need to purchase from the link below?

Keep in mind I have NO idea how to proceed on this...

You will only need a rear diff gasket (or RTV sealent), I would replace the axle seals (local parts store item), and some 90wt gear oil (local parts store item). If you find the bearings in bad shape you can order them from several places like CCOT, SOR, etc. It's not that hard to do on an open diff. (Do you have a locker in the rear now?)

Will do, thx.

While I'm ordering, think I'll just get everything necessary from Georg. No locker in the rear, no.

I double-gasketed (Mark W claims to do this with headers) with Felpro gaskets when I switched to headers. It's been holding for 3 or 4 years now. One probably would've been just fine.

Toyota stocks these as OEM these days, but O'Reilly's has the same gasket for about $15.

Any of you round-headlighters tried these fly LED headlights? All I've got to put them in is the Defender, and I'm usually reluctant to do ANYTHING other-than-standard to the electrics on that thing.......

I think they're pretty cool, but I'd also like to see their performance before taking a $600 plunge:

I suggest Remflex. Not sure who carries them now but there is probably a mud vendor that does.

x2 on the Remflex

Anybody know if a post 75 windshield and gasket can be used in a pre 75 windshield frame?

My truck didn't come with any mirrors. Found these for sale, is this what a 76 would've had?

Not real sure but they will work. My 78 has those. For some reason I am thinking a 76 came with round mirrors. ???
