Okay I've got this bug in my head this morning. I really want this cruiser body looking as close to factory as possible. Some blockhead cut the dash out and its bothering me.

Any ideas how to fix this dash? I've thought about just welding in sheet metal but wondering what others have done in this situation.

When are you going to have it painted ?
I'm getting my final quote today. I've added some things to the pile for the body guy to consider. I still have alot of parts to strip to get ready for paint. Plus have to go through all my totes and get out the small parts.

Researching today the correct rear sill for the tub. Probably will be dropping all parts off to the body guy mid-late December.

BTW: I have a soft top and bows that I'm looking to sell. I have to make sure all the parts are there but its a black soft top with the bows. You know anyone who might be interested in this. I'll get it in the heated shop and spread it out to make sure its as cherry as I think it is.

You really only have two options, either weld in a piece and grind it down drilling new holes for the controls or replace the entire dash. I've heard of a few people taking the second route, but it's a PITA drilling out all the spot welds and finding the right year in good shape -

Hope that helps :)

soft top

depending on what the soft top bows are like, there are several people that have bought the ehsan tops from the classified section but don't have a set of bows, so if the canvas is no good on yours, or even if it is good, you might want to list the entire thing in the classifieds section of Mud.

If the top and bows are OEM or OEM replications, you can put me first in-line for them. I am in dire need of a set of OEM soft top bows.

If it's an aftermarket top, like Kayline or Bestop, you can get some good cash for them, too.

Just post them up with pics in the Parts for Sale section.

Looks like your 40 is gonna be killer...

Garth I was workin on the 40 last night and dug out the top and bows. The top is a Kayline top, I have it thawing out in my house before I spread it all out. Here are the pics of the bows, I need to find a missing piece....see pictures.

This morning I took the hardtop sides, windshield, and rear hatch into the auto glass shop and had the glass removed. These guys took the glass out, spared the rubber window gaskets in about 30 mintues. They are even storing the glass for me until I get my pieces back from the bodyshop...pretty cool.

Yep, that's an aftermarket Kayline top and bows. Still worth some money, but not the OEM set-up I'm looking for.

Just updating this thread. The past couple weeks I have been stripping emblems, ect off body panels to get ready for the body shop. I'm ordering my new rear sill and rear quarters from CCOT Monday.

Today we put the primered tub back onto the frame. In order to weld the rear quarters on the tub they need to weld a brace from the tub to the frame of the cruiser so everything is square. Jan 2 I should have all necessary body parts and will be transporting the 40 to the body shop.

You should paint it and put it back together, pretty hard to sell a project even when it's good stuff ;) PM me if you're interested in selling the cage separate -

Hey Tucker that cage is sweet. I am trying to figure out how to make it a real and complete cage, not just something you bolt to the tub. I think I'm going to have a local machine shop make custom braces so I can bolt it/weld it to the frame. I think I'm going to have to put her back together. I should research more and drool less when buying a project like this. Anyway lesson learned. I'll have to finish her up and it will still be fun. If it doesn't sell I'll keep this thread going...but I'm not willing to part her out!!!

Friday December 31 I got the cruiser all loaded up and drove a couple hours to drop it off at the body shop. I got her pretty dirty out on the farm to I blasted her off so the guys at the Bodyshop wouldn't have a mess on their hands. Wouldn't ya know the brakes froze up and it was a pain in the ass getting it off the trailer... I love those 'note to self' experiences. I wrapped the motor so the elements didn't get into the throttle body and that worked well. A 10 x 12 tarp and 4 rachet straps held all the way there.

Should be getting the cruiser back in 30 days and start putting her back together. Going with FreeBorn Red. This baby will look great with new paint, new rear quarters and sill.
