Finally got around to making a sub frame for my RTT. I wanted to be able to swap between my roof rack and my RTT without having to undo or reposition my gamiviti feet.

Here’s the rack I came up with...

You can see how I integrated some awning mounting receivers into the design. Now I can just slide my awning into the rack or the RTT mount.

I welded some bolts into the tubing to have the ability to just drop the tent onto the feet and tighten them from the bottom. Lining everything up took the most time but they came out clean...

Al mounted up, just in time for winter...

Good low profile fit.

Now to see if I even like a rooftop tent. I bought one back circa 2008 before they were all the rage and put one on a trailer that I towed with my 40. I didn’t love it then because it flapped like crazy but mine was a cheap one, I’m hoping buying one of the more top shelf ones will pay off! I do hope to find a Go Fast Camper tent to replace this one someday since you keep a lot of the roof carrying capacity. Me and my youngest boy are going to go try it out next weekend down in Yellowstone national park, should be a good test of how warm and quiet the tent is. Wish us luck.

Snuck in one last trip to Yellowstone NP before it’s closed for the winter. Had a great couple days with my youngest enjoying an empty park and fresh snow. Seeing old faithful erupt with 12 other people was epic.

Winter camp...

Made hot cocoa for the boy under the cover at the Old Faithful Inn... try that in the summer.

Can I bother you about offroading trails and areas to camp in a couple of months? I want to see Yellowstone but wanna venture into Montana also while I’m there in the hundy. Planning a trip for next summer.

If you want to camp at established camp sites you need to be booking now. Everything fills up so quick anymore its a shame... but I am happy to help.

There you go! You’re already giving solid advice. I really appreciate it. I’ll send you a private message soon. Mainly just wanna run some nice trails while I am over there. I barely drove the LX this year, just did one trip and put it away. Gotta make up for it next year 😀

Found a spot for my compressor, I wanted to hard mount it but be able to quickly toss it into the 40/camper when I want to.

I added some threaded inserts into the base of the wing and bolted it down. I’m going to run a pigtail to the switch and be able to swap out the jumpers when in the 40.

It’s nice having an oil-less design. Makes this a snap.

New home, didn’t loose any space for the bubba rope or bear pew-pew medicine either.

I am heading to Cruise Moab next month! Talk about motivation to knock out a punch list...

Put in a new OEM steering rack.
Got a fresh alignment.
Replaced my rusted out muffler.
Pulled my fog lights out of the ARB for a big upgrade (stay tuned).

Got more prep done today... got a full 5+ hours to work on it.
  • Added a new fire extinguisher mount, the plastic one broke after 4-5 years.
  • Added a new marine fire extinguisher.
  • Hard mounted my HAM head unit, the velcro mounting system failed long ago.
  • Installed a Nite-Ize magnetic ball mount the "Steelie" for the HAM mic.
  • Created a panel for my compressor mount and switch... I am excited about this one.
  • Rerouted wires for the fridge to eliminate my CNC cable track that failed miserably.
  • Got my water tank, lines, pump and switch up and running for 16 gallons of on tap water for the desert. It's way too much but I won't have to ration.
Still to go...
  • Replace my heater "T"s on the heater hoses.
  • Diagnose a weak 2nd battery.
  • Fix and reattach my sway bar end links. Broke a rear, lost a bushing on one of the front end links.
  • One of my shocks "protection sleeve" is broke and slid down over the shock body.
  • Weld in some control arm skid plates.
  • Change all fluids in the diffs, xfer case, engine and trans.
  • New plugs.
Pics up this weekend.

Sounds like a BLAST!! Jamming a whole month of work for me into a couple of hours! Looking forward to the pics!

New muffler… it was time. I went with a quiet stainless inexpensive/simple muffler. Quiet as a mouse now. The drone was killing me on the highway.

Added an upgrade to my fire extinguisher on the Slee rear bumper. I picked up one of the quick releases from Amazon and so far it seems like it’s going to work fine. I also swapped out my ABC rated extinguisher for a Marine/Auto specific extinguisher.

The old one last about 5 years with the old plastic mount but it finally broke. I’m going to test the old extinguisher as I hear the powder can settle and not come out. I’ll let the kids use it at our next campfire to show them what happens when they set it off.

The new bracket is pretty copied on Amazon. This one was about $25 bucks but it is solid and easy to use. It has two parts one mounts to the truck and the other to the bottle. Pull the knob and lift it off.

I think this is a good use of space on the rear tire carrier and it’s an awesome spot when camping and using the camp stove…

I created a small panel for the compressor switch and air chuck pass through… now I can keep the compressor mounted in the wing of the drawers and just attach the hose and flip the switch. Easy peasy…

New panel… I must be missing a pic of it installed. I’ll post a pic update soon.

Lots and lots of work! I especially like the compressor mount you made. If I didn't need the compressor to run the front and rear diffs, I'd have most likely mounted it there too!

Beautiful.. As always...👌

A few pics of the pneumatic panel… came out nice. I used the ARB quick disconnect that makes it super easy to pop the hose on and off.

Had to paint the screws black… dang details.

Came out just right a little room for more switches.

Also, added the only acceptable camping sheets… plaid flannel, pillow covers and a down comforter.

Also, added some LES lighting to the RTT.
