Ok..... we're rebuilding the front and rear axles. We found them to be "ok". Meaning , we didn't get anything too crazy..... of course the front knuckle housings have stripped threads are missing nuts and bolts, the seals are bad and the bearings are the cheapest chinese crap you can find. Nothing against our Chinese brothers and sisters but we all know how that works. OEM parts are available so i'll send for those just to be on the safe side.
Whole we're at it , i'll also rebuild the calippers and sand blast and powder coat them.
We found some metal shavings in the diff centers😡😡😡. I should have known this was coming

If one of you pros would advise me on the right gears to get for this thing, i'd be really happy. My tire size is 37x13.5 x 18. Tranny is a 6L90e. It's probably the right time to shove some lockers into these diffs ......

Quick question ,
A friend of mine has an ARB air locker he wants to sell me locally. That would be perfect for me but it's for a 60 series. Would that locker work in my 80 series diff ??

Off the top of my head, without any searching, I believe the spline count is different between the 60s and 80s. Dont hold me to it, like I said, just off the top of my head.

As far as gearing, depends on what you're planning on. I'd say the 4.10s with the 6 speed would be pretty nice all around. Its a lot of coin to regear, and easy enough to pull the dropouts after you test drive it and sort whatever other bugs come up in it. Id even venture to say that doing the tcase gears in it, might be a better way to go. Couldn't be happier with mine.

Splines should be the same between the 60 and the 80.
If the ARB will fit a 80 housing/third I’m not sure but I think so.

I should have been more clear !
The splines are the same on the 40's 60's & 80s just different length axles. The 100 series 9.5 has different spline count.

I saw a guy on Youtube . I think his name is Austin Niemela. Very cool build ! He installed an Autometer screen for his gauges . That thing looks really sweet. I am definitely getting one of those for this build😍
This kid is a badass . Go ahead and checkout his chanel , if you haven't yet and get inspired. Good stuff !
Ha I talk to him . I have a set of his light mounts . He uses a lot of Cerakote and Powder He is always 1 step behind me though on the Build 😃

100 is 32 spline I have a set of drive flanges for one if needed and a diff also 🤔

The man selling the lockers has the front locker as well. They're brand new and priced right .... i just need confirmation that they'll work in my 80 series diffs before i pull the trigger.

I’ve seen threads debating whether these are interchangeable. I’d wonder if @GLTHFJ60 or @FJ40Jim could help?

Here is a thread from them on the topic back in 2009, though they are talking about the third member and not necessarily an ARB.

I have no idea if this helps but there appears to be two part numbers on ARB’s website for a 1992 FJ80 (I couldn’t remember what year your frame is from), and one part number crosses over to a 1985 BJ60 (the “base” on their website must be the FJ60? The BJ60 looks to have the same part numbers as the base).

80 rear fits in 60 front yes. Won't work in 60 semi float rear but it will in a 60 full float rear.

Being told that the rear 60 series ARB locker will fit into the 80 series diff. So that works.
The 60 series front locker won't work in the 80 series because the 80's diff is smaller🤫😵
Who would have thought ?
