I put on 2200 miles in three days on my 97. It’s got 285s on stock wheels, stock gears. Got about 14 mpg avg driving between 70-75mph cruise.

I cannot imagine running 35s w stock gears. Would not want to. The truck would have to kick down on mole hills even at sea level. No thanks.

Look g forward to my 35s+488s!

Update based on my 2nd FZJ80 w/ 315/75/16s plus stock gears.

I'm pretty economical on the throttle from a stop really just for safety reasons here in the hustle and bustle of 405/10 traffic in Los Angeles. While it's not a poor experience, I'm hoping the 4.88s get me that extra bit of juice I want similar to the stock geared 80 acceleration I experienced on 33s.

I rarely exceed 70mph in the LC. My rig is completely bone stock other than the OME lift and 35s on heavy steelies.

My gears are 4.88. I’ve run 35’s and now 37’s. I noticed a difference when I went to 37’s but it’s not life changing.

Something I think many 80 owners forget is that it was designed and built back when people still had a shred of patience and didn’t expect everything to happen instantly because they had an attention span longer than 3 seconds. Perhaps 3 seconds is a bit optimistic......

Where in WLA are you located? I’m in Santa Monica and I run 35’s on Nitro 4.88s. I daily down to Fountain Valley and back, 80 miles round trip. Absolutely love the setup. If you want a sample, you’re welcome to check my truck out.
