That's weird their isn't one. Not sure why. I would add one. That arb one looks great. Also I think some trannies should have a boot that slides over the shift tower to basically seal off the tower so water can't get in through the tower. Not sure if that tranny had that option or not. Maybe it vents through the tower.Used some left over parts from an air locker install to make a vent. I don’t see a vent on on the transmission? Should I add one?

It’s easily the best upgrade I’ve done. The transfercase has a slight whine in 4lo but nothing too obnoxious.I was curious how the case is holding up for you. I have a future build I’m dreaming about and debating on using a 34mm case I have; I’m not sure of the year. Is the case holding up?
How bad is the gear whine? I can’t hear my Orion on 35’s. The next build will be on ~37-40. I imagine they’ll drown it out.

How does the gear whine compare to the orion?Agreed.
The low range gears for the split case, both 3:1 and 4:1 are a fantastic upgrade for any cruiser that gets to go play offroad.
We’ve installed more than 200 sets of these including the prototype set in one of my personal cruisers.
We also keep all the gear sets in stock along with the rebuild kit and anything else needed for this upgrade.

I can tell you the 34mm main shaft is larger than the shaft in a NP205 Transfercase used in one ton trucks. How does the gear whine compare to the orion?
I read another thread that questioned the need of the 38mm idler version of the case? So It sounds like the 34mm is holding up to V8 & big tires?

Thanks for the reply. I’m still working through my plan for this build. This case came up for sale cheap and close enough to grab it. I’ll reach out to talk about the machining costs. There is no reason you can’t use a 34mm case, it just takes a bit more work/$$$. But if you absolutely can’t find a good 38mm core, I wouldn’t hesitate to use a 34mm case. In fact I rock a 34mm case in my blue 72-40. Maaaany broken birfs, semi-float shafts, and a driveline yoke, zero t-case issues all these years (23?) later.
Fwiw, we weld/machine all of our cases getting 3:1, 3.1: or 4:1 gears. The cost isn’t much in the overall scope of the install, particularly for those buying our fully new trans/t-case or new t-case combos. That’s not to say it can’t/hasn’t been done sans welding/machining, but we like to have additional clearance in the case and a much thicker zone where that clearancing takes place.
On par or quieter than an Orion imo. Make sure you inspect, replace, and property preload all parts in the case, not always done even a on a t-case overhaul. T-case kits don’t generally include the rear output shims and while in many cases the existing shims will work with the fresh rear output bearing, it’s certainly not an always situation. We buy pallet loads of OEM new 2:1, 2.3:1 and vacuum shift cases each month, about 1 in 4 new cases needs adjustments to the rear output shaft when we are setting it up for a customer.
