Among the myriad of Toyotas in my stable is a mostly stock 1990 4Runner with the 3vz-e engine and front and rear heat. The original heater hoses have finally deteriorated after 3 decades and are now leaking. In the below photo I’ve circled in red all of the locations where coolant is seeping out.

I figured no big deal, I’ll just hop on Partsouq to get the part numbers and shop around for the best deal on each OEM Toyota hose. Unfortunately, as most of you probably already know but I just found out, all but 1-2 of these heater hoses are NLA from Toyota. In my quest to figure out the best option for replacing these, given the OEM hoses can’t be had, I found the HPS silicone hose kit. HPS Silicone Heater Coolant Hose Kit Toyota 1989-1992 4Runner 3.0L V6 with Rear Heater Left Hand Drive, 57-1766 - https://hpsperformanceproducts.com/products/hps-silicone-heater-coolant-hose-kit-1989-1992-toyota-4runner-3-0l-v6-rear-57-1766?variant=37787188428990&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_campaign=gs-2019-11-15&utm_source=google&utm_medium=smart_campaign&gclid=CjwKCAiAyc2BBhAaEiwA44-wW4ILElNqeWJ8oDtVBc4ppZ0KWpbngLYFP4xPCQ3GMC56Rptjm1y-mBoCcqsQAvD_BwE

I’ve always been averse to silicone hoses for coolant lines, etc. - they simply don’t last as long or fit as well as the Toyota rubber, in my experience. However, it doesn’t appear I have any other options at this point to replace the old leaky hoses and keep the coolant system happy (and engine temps low). Thus, I’m curious if there’s a consensus among you folks about the HPS silicone hoses, or if you know of potentially better options?

Thanks!

I'm not familiar with the 3VZ, but it appears some hoses are available.

1: 87245-89231, $26.03 list
2: 87245-89269, $15.49 list
3: 87245-35040, $70.14 (OUCH!) BUT, this looks like a hose for a truck without the rear heat. The hook can be cut off for your truck. See pic.

I can compare the hoses on both the 22re/3vze but I have an 87/88 year range. Not sure if it changed for 2nd gens. Also, my 4Runner is not equipped with rear heat.

Thanks @pappy Below is the diagram for 3vz with rear heat that I was working from.

Look through the Gates catalog online.
Thanks - I’ll check it out. However, I’ve had fitment issues with Gates hoses in the past, primarily because of IDs being too large to seal well...and I’m not a fan of worm-drive clamps when the Toyota constant tension clamps work so well. But I might have to bite the bullet for a couple of these hoses, given NLA status.
