It's almost that time again for the 3rd annual Sandhills Ride. We are doing this thing January 23-25

The idea of this trip is a two night camping weekend in the Sand Hills State Forest and on private land. There are not many rock obstacles or steep hill climbs in our region so don't expect a lot wheeling. If you really want to justify your 4wd the I will be glad to set you up with a mud hole. This will be a family friendly camping weekend. Everything can be accomplished with a stock vehicle and there will be opportunities for gas and grocery stores along the way. I will provide a group meal Saturday night otherwise you are responsible for own food

Day/Night 1 - Camp at the Sand Hills State Forest. I have reserved a campsite at Mountain Pond Site 1A which should accommodate 10-12 vehicles. This is across the pond from the previous years site. There is a restroom and shelter at this sight. I can reserve another campsite if enough interest arises. The site is on a pond so bring a fishing pole if that's what you are into.

Day 2 - We will take a riding tour of the Sand Hills State Forest and the Sand Hills Wildlife Refuge with a few stops along the way. We will stop for lunch somewhere, possibly Wild Heart Brewery if time permits. We will then make our way to our farm in the Bishopville, SC area. Exact location to be disclosed off the web for those attending. More fishing opportunities at this location. Saturday night we will provide a group meal and a bond fire.

Also note that alcohol is not allowed in the state forest but we are adults here so make your own decision.

Plans subject to change if better ideas develop.

Coordinates for the Night 1 campsite
34.59124517270697, -80.12871083016941

Pro Tip: There's a good chance it will be very cold so make sure Santa brings you a diesel heater if you don't have one.

Room for one more rig and trailer? Would be a perfect trip for Aaron and the 4runner if i can get a couple things sorted in time. 4runner needs a spare tire and the trailer a new tongue....

@rlynch356 mentioned the ride to me last night. I would really like to join the ride for the 1st night and through lunch Sat. if there is still room for one more. I have a GX460 that is stock that I’m looking to convert to overland. Thanks!

Get your winter gear ready. Looks like we may be waking up Sunday with some white stuff on the ground.
Been watching the forecast like a hawk. Last report I saw was calling for a lot of ice late in the day on Saturday, Saturday night and most of Sunday.

I’ve been watching it, too. It amazing how it went from mid-50s to an ice storm in a day or so. Unfortunately, I’ll have to skip this one if the current forecast holds. Not willing to be away from home during a major winter storm.

We're not.going to make it. Can't get what we need done in time. Take.plenty of.pics.
