Totally on board gang. I am a resident VA CHP holder, which when I went to the resources in the initial planning of the trip, learned that CO only recognizes Resident permits from various statesl.. Unfortunately VA isn't one of those.

I don't leave home without it... much less a 5000 mile road trip. I'll rely on other sheep dogs in the pack... As I'll have to upholster, unload, and lock up when entering CO.
 
Your are right, it's concealed and doesn't need to be showed and told. It'll be kept where it needs to be. I may live in the south, but I don't fully embrace the redneck guns and beer! I do love guns and beer...I just tend to leave them separated.
 
Hey guys, I just wanted to ask one favor regarding the potluck on Friday night.

I just wanted to ask for those who are bringing food for sharing that you would try to keep it NUT FREE!

It's 10pm and I'm typing this in the emergency room where I had to take my 4year old boy!

He's extremely allergic to nuts and I got him exposed to it twice in 2 weeks! Both times we had to hold him down and give his epipen shot!

It really sucks but he's better now!

I really appreciate you understanding our delicate situation!

^Hope he's feeling better. This is important information and something we should all be cognizant of. As kids run around and play, its important for everyone to think before they offer their own kids a cookie and offer one to the little fella running with them at that time. Dangerous stuff. Find a parent, and ask first.
 
Glad he's doing better. I'm contemplating bringing a little something different from SC for you guys if my fridge space cooperates... (no nuts in it!)

Glad u mentioned this. I was planning on bringing some chicken and sausage gumbo...BUT it is peanut oil based. Will leave that off the list now.

I was close to the same deal. Going to see if I can pack a few quarts of turkey stew. We used veggie oil and bacon grease :hillbilly: though so should be good to go!

I also am a CC permit holder, and agree with all the above. If I am not in a position where it needs to be used for its intended purpose (protection), it is tucked away safely in my truck holster. No need for show and tell. Kinda defeats the purpose...

Thanks for the support guys! I didn't want to make rain in the food parade! If the stuff you r making is awesome and needs to be enjoyed by the others by all means be it!
It's more like letting everybody know what's in the food so we are aware of the danger!

hey get outside- I'm working thursday so won't be leaving Denver until much later, if you're still around we can caravan? let sync up in a month... and no worries on the nuts, we're nut free as well here! :).
 
If anyone has ANY allergies, please make sure you send that info to Jonathan so we can update our Master List. And obviously, if its a food allergy its best to bring your own food and snacks that are free of that allergen.

All of my food will be gluten free. I am not Celiac, but have a pretty severe gluten allergy. I tried to pretend I didn't have it for Cruise Moab and woofed down a few delicious burritos on the Kokopelli. I ended up so sick I had to leave Moab early.

I think it's safe for everyone to make whatever they like, but equally important to remember what's in it so others can make the choice if it's ok to eat.
 
Really wish I could add a hometown southern dish to the pot luck table, but I fear the condition of anything cooked after sitting in the bottom of a cooler for four days. We'll have to find something local to participate.

Reminds me, I've said it already, but we are in the mountains and rain is a probability. It usually comes in in the afternoon and is gone by the evening but weather patterns are all over the place. It also comes in fast, if we are out hiking and a storm is starting to brew, it's best to get back to the trucks. Lightning is a serious issue for hikers in Colorado. The trail leaders are all well versed in the San Juan's weather patterns and will keep others well informed.

So do I! Great time to buy a fridge! Some awesome lower cost options are coming to market that are not junk like some of the older models. Check out IronMan and Eva-Cool for starters.
 
I'm getting the Ironman 40L put in while my truck is at ACC for lockers/4.88's etc in the next couple weeks. I was going to go ARB/Engel but Peter advised several of the guys there are running the ironmans all with positive feedback.

Was outside routing the CB antenna cable under the dash and just like that, 2 seconds and Denver weather goes crazy!
Starts hailing over me, I only had time to bring the wife's van into the garage, lock up the cruiser and run!
Unfortunately had to leave it out since the 40 was parked in a weird way with battery disconnected and other things in the way!
Luckily the hail turned into rain pretty quick! I'll make sure all 3 are inside for the next one!
 
There's a couple local club threads pertaining to the 100s trip in the Expedition section. I noticed some discussion earlier here and in the Expedition section on acclimating to the altitude. My family and I have spent a few days in Ouray during the winter every couple of years in the past. Don't recall ever having headaches or sickness during that time. But, we've never been higher than Ouray (other than for brief periods during the drive from Durango over to Ouray). We will not be able to arrive early to acclimate. We'll be doing good to get there early Friday morning. Any other suggestions on how to prepare for the altitude other than what's already been listed:

Stay well hydrated
Take aspirin
Be in decent physical shape (as much as possible with a month to go)
Go easy on the alcohol
