what if they discontinue the big boy landcruiser and give us the next land cruiser prado, where all US and OUS markets get only the landcruiser prado in a fuel efficient and capable package.

hell they can call it landcruiser only like some markets do for the Prado version where the 200 isn't offered such as spain.

They already give us the 4Runner and the GX, which is basically a fully equipped Prado. I drove the GX 3 times when shopping for a new SUV. I prefer the LC in every way except when squeezing into a narrow parking space.

Yep. I saw some of those new "Land Cruisers" on a recent trip to EU and it had me scratching my head, didn't really know what to think. Is it really the end of big LCs? It looks to be it.
A shot of one of those "new" LC Prados on a street in Poland, at first it had me scratching my head "Why do these people slap a Toyota LC logo on a Lexus?", lol.

As KLF said, the Prado has been branded as a Land Cruiser overseas for decades. It doesn’t portend a change here in the US. And we effectively already get the Prado in US — we have since 2003.

Exactly.
It’s mostly a naming thing...

That is correct, of course!
( I come here to learn!)

I have to admit to a large degree of ignorance - I remember my head just span when I saw that LC badged Prado...o_O.
Sneaky Lexus branding in US, huh? Lol

But in all seriousnes I think we are very very fortunate here in the US having access to the real deal LCs at prices that, while high (85k USD), let’s face it - are still WAY lower that literally anywhere else in the world! (For the real deal)
:steer:

To compete with the new Honda Passport?

This would make sense. I saw a few pics and description of the new Passport, very underwhelming to me. I don't think Toyota will have much trouble making a model that outdoes the Passport.

I haven't had a chance to watch the videos on the new Passport yet, but as long as it's not made by Isuzu, should be an improvment :poop:

The new Passport is basically a shortened Pilot that has been lifted about an inch. It is more capable than the Pilot, but still a crossover with no 2-speed transfer case.

I would be shocked if Toyota didn't sell the 300 series in the US. Regardless of the limited sales of the LC and LX combined they are using drivetrain tech that's largely EPA-approved for other full size vehicles in the US, so at $85k+ list it has to be profitable for them... and if it's not they just need to raise the price of an LC/LX to make it profitable.

There were rumors Toyota was going to kill off the Sequoia at one point, but I think the last few years of high volume SUV sales and low volume sedans changed their mind, at least for now.

Given the high market demand for SUVs again, while gas prices remain low, do you think with the upcoming Tundra redesign, we will get a new Sequoia finally?

That is my assumption, that a new Tundra will mean a new Sequioa. It wouldn’t surprise me if the new Sequioa lagged a year behind.

"It’s expected that the brand will debut new additions to the light truck line, including a model bridging the compact-midsize gap. Rival Honda just premiered its gap-filled this week."

"As such, the brand plans to add a TRD variant to every Toyota light truck and car still in production in the near future (there’s talk of a small cull looming)."

Toyota Prepares Product Offensive; TRD and AWD Are the Acronyms You Need to Know - The Truth About Cars

TRD everything, apparently. The plural of the word "additions" in the "additions to the light truck line" is interesting. Multiple new vehicles in the LT segment. Hopefully not another, larger, CUV.

good article

no 300 confirmation, but always good to read about Toyota body on frame articles.

Don't Expect A Retro Toyota FJ Cruiser Successor Anytime Soon

The very fact that most others have abandoned the body-on-frame may well be a huge factor in helping Toyota stay with it.

If it was still a crowded field of BOF, it might be too little to sustain, but as the last major flag bearer, Toyota can rule that market segment nearly alone.

Whatever the reason...THANK YOU Toyota.
