As for the charging out in the bush with solar we are a long way off. I have 21 280w solar panels that cover the entire south facing roof of my my 3 car garage. The most power I have ever made in one day is 34kwh. On a cloudy day I get 25-50% of what I do on a sunny day. So even with an array of PV modules that size it would take 3 days to charge an 100kwh Tesla battery.

Toyota keeps their cards pretty close to the vest. Since we didn’t get an update for 2019, the earliest I expect to hear about a 300 would be Spring next year.
I just received this LC ad in the mail from Toyota. It is, of course, the 2019 200, but I wonder if the happy couple in the ad reflects the direction Toyota will be taking with marketing the NA LC 300? I doubt these folks look as happy as they do because they just made it down Blackbear Pass with their Land Cruiser and that's very different than what I see for marketing in my 80 and 100 and older 200 series brochures.

Meh... They’re just trying to tap the Land Rover market folks imo...
Land Rover also had a shift in marketing and a shift in product...albeit a long time ago.

2020 LC will be a 200 series with minor refresh. 300 will be 2021 at the earliest.
What I want/think makes sense. The key theme is further differentiating the LX from the LC.
•no departure from the 200 series architecture (body on frame, solid rear axle)
•Hybrid option for the LX (maybe the LC too). Low PSI turbo for the V8 to increase economy.
•emissions friendly turbo diesel option in the LC. A NA v8 should still be offered, possibly with the low PSI turbo as an option. A price premium for only the turbo V8.
•I doubt a poverty pack would happen but at least be able to trade TVs/gizmos for lockers. Allow for a lower cost LC (with ability to option to its current price) and keep a base LX at the same price point.
•Bring factory snorkels/off-road oriented options for the LC like they’ve done with the TRD Pro lineup. I wouldn’t want to see a TRD Pro edition though.

you have the inside track for sure but a fairly reliable source at Toyota indicated to me that after 2020, Toyota wasn't planning on selling LC's stateside any longer. Too few sold. IDK...just passing along third-had information.
A bunch of us at LCDC heard first hand info from Toyota that they intend to keep selling the Land Cruiser in the US even as a low volume vehicle. Of course things can change, but we heard it directly from a Toyota spokesperson. They also sent a new stock 200 on the trails with us, so I feel they understand the enthusiast market here is small yet very strong.
That would be a shocker if true, esp since the LC has quite a bit of a legendary history. Sure, the LC is not a high volume seller, but any flagship model generally do not sell as much volume wise as the mid tier models.

I've heard that rumor too. I would be utterly shocked if LC was discontinued in the US. I could see them dragging out the 200 for 3-4 more years, but not discontinuing it. I can tell you that we will see a new body-on-frame SUV model in the next year. Placed somewhere between a Rav4 and a 4Runner on a new TNGA platform. Probably not an FJ Cruiser, but who knows.
TNGA is a unibody platform. Are you suggesting there will be a different and new platform that is body on frame? I have a hard time believing there would be a new body on frame platform that is not specifically made for the Tundra, Land Cruiser, Sequoia, and then potentially scaled down for the Tacoma and 4Runner.

But.. Lets say your truck goes up in value...and you sell it...and there are no new ones..

Recent news in the popular media suggests that Toyota is on the verge is trimming its extensive model line-up. There's been plenty of speculation as to which specific models. Some are coming at it from the age of the platform. Others sales volume. Yet others focus the cut on sedans. Given GM and Fords recent wholesale chopping of cars and sedans, it wouldn't be too much of a surprise if the restructure largely happens there. SUVs and trucks have generally been on a tear.

Something American auto writers will never get, the Japanese are an honorable group of people, willing to make business decisions, for better or worse, to uphold that honor.
The Land Cruiser is THE vehicle that made Toyota the brand it is today. Without it, Toyota never had a chance of convincing American buyers (the only country doing pretty good after WWII) the Crown was a good car. As long as Toyota is sold in America, then the Land Cruiser will be also. Simply out of respect for the name... Land Cruiser.
