300 series revealed?

Another option is Toyota discontinues the Land Cruiser in the USA entirely. Not all that far fetched. Is America really ready for a $100,000 Land Cruiser?
I think this is most likely. They don't sell enough units and the ones they do are deeply discounted. I'm sure they are still profitable but they've either got them priced to high or demand is just not there.

What's not 100k these days? Even a tarted up pickup that is the Slade can get close to that price point. Imagine a Sequoia being 100k. We know the 200-series has way more substance to justify it's price compared to those two.

The Land Cruiser and LX570s serve as the halo car for the line SUVs. They're goal is not necessarily to move more units of these cars, but to move more mainstream SUVs.

My personal observation, but it seems the Land Cruiser is getting more recognition in the mainstream market. If only because overlanding/jeeping popularity has grown tremendously in recent years. And perhaps people getting tired of the crapshoot that is the Range Rover/Land Rover.

May be way off base on this, but how much longer will internal combustion engines be produced? Starting next year, for example, Volvo will have electric (or hybrid electric) power in 100% of their 2019 fleet. Granted, the Land Cruiser is a world vehicle and electric power is definitely a first world cause at the moment. But how great would it be to shed Jerry cans for solar panels? Unlimited off-the-grid range! And the simplicity of electric motors, one at each corner. This of course assumes that solar and battery technologies continue to have gains in efficiency and cost. With a 10+ year cycle life for the Land Cruiser one must think that Toyota has this as a consideration.

It has already been confirmed that they will NOT discontinue in the US.

If you can devise an auto-sized solar panel that produces enough to keep a huge truck rolling with trailers...you will become an instant billionaire. :)

I do think Tesla's promised 600 mile battery range in a few years will eventually become a reality, and we'll see fewer and fewer cars that are combustion only...but that still won't get the UN's up-armored Land Cruisers (for example) though the Sahara...or any of us though a week-long+ wheeling/camping trip to the boonies.

There is one, it's called the 3 row LX 570.

Like Mark said, solar panel efficiency is nowhere near that point. Yeah, it would be cool. Toyota right now isn't pushing the envelope with electrics at all - only the Prius Prime with a whopping 20 mile range - but they have stated they are focusing on solid state battery EVs.

Toyota made a move to increase volume with the stripper 2 row LX, I wouldn't be surprised to see that as an option for the 2019 Land Cruiser as the platform becomes older: a few less features, no third row, and a few thousand less MSRP.

Also, they have seemed to elude the spy cameras for now... no mule photos of any kind that I know of yet. Certainly they've done a decent amount of vehicle testing by now, but no scoops.

The thought of a 300 Series kinda scares me. Just give the 200 a facelift and bore it out to maybe 6.0 liters and Id be happy. Like the FJ62, call it the 202 :)

No need to be scared of change.

60 series went 9 years for production as well. 300 series, I am sure will be fantastic. It is a heritage nameplate and Toyota will not just give the 200 a facelift (already did that in 16).

I think it's a legitimate concern since the US tends to get zero choice of model options.
We are happy with the 5.7, but would could have been handed something else.
In the same manner, we don't have any control over Toyota's decision unless we live in Australia, where choices are many.

I feel a bit "safer" since my next Cruiser may well be a low miles '18 or '19 some years from now when it's 7 or 8 years old in 2026 or so... but eventually Toyota's whims will be a determiner for those in the USA.

Wishlist for the 300:

Factory 35" like the Ford Raptor
Better front and rear bumpers (no reason every pickup on the market should have better bumpers than the Land Cruiser).
Unfxxx the D pillar and overall design on the LX. (Slab sides FTW)

It's actually hard for me to look at that design.

That's better.

I guess my point is, if the next LC doesnt have a normally aspirated V8, I will never own one, and that will make me sad :frown:

And that is only an artist rendering...
