Man... I want one of these... love the "TEQ" embossed on the cover... far preferable to the "TOYOTA".

As an aside, I think your idea of powdercoating is the right one @Will Van. That or paint. I originally polished mine... but the aluminum does oxidize if you don't keep it buffed. It isn't like a chrome finish.

In the end I went back and high-temp painted it. Far easier to keep clean looking... just wipe it off when it gets dirty.

I powdercoated my FZJ80 valve cover and it turned out fantastic. FJ40 cover should be even easier because there are no internal baffles to deal with.

Modern powdercoat is so nice that you should be able to get a final finish close to polished or chromed, but with way less maintenance.

My 1981 FJ40 USA-Spec 2F Valve Cover I had Media Blasted w/ Soda , Then Clear Coated w/ a Marine Grade 2 part Low

Luster Clear , that has UV rated inhibitors , so far its holding up well after 2 years , but also does not see much use .....

i used a Artist Brush & applied a Marine Grade Red Lacquer by hand after the Soda Blasting , prior to the Clear Coating

, so it would be sealed too. Remember NO RED color pastel is UV safe ! ever sea a Red TOYOTA Before ?

look's like Dried Spaghetti Sauce after only a few years

1983 FJ43L-KC NON-USA Columbia Spec. 2F

Note: NO Smog-Pump Air Injection Rail Ports in Cylinder Head

on " My-Mistress " , I approached the Valve Cover finish spec. with a Purest Based Mindset .

A Hot Rod type Body Shop gave me a Quote to Media Blast it , and apply 2 coats of Single Stage Lacquer , the Low Temp. Bake in a

Oven , the Color i chose was the Pewter that is on the Front Bumper , rear bumperetts & license plate holder clam shell lights covers

the Results Exceeded My expectations , and the Pewter Color is a Approach i would absolutely Use again

Will - Once you find the valve cover you want to use, should you go the powder coat route, be sure to take the inner baffle & gasket out at the PCV hose intake VC exhaust port beforehand.

Oops! I didn't realize it had a baffle. I will definitely remove. Don't want any sand getting trapped in there during prep.

Thanks for the heads up!

FYI - Actually, that is the VC breather hose exhaust port....not the PCV hose intake. (just a clarification to my post #45)

I'm trying to recreate this setup. Maybe not the exact same color scheme, but I like how simple/elegant the engine bay looks on a de-smogged truck.

Why are you running dual clamps on the radiator inlet hose?

At the time, I switched from the OEM wire clamps to stainless steel worm-style hose clamps. So I kept the wire clamps tight and added one new hose clamp, removed the wire clamp and added a second....Thus, I never removed the outer clamp that was unnecessary, but left it there as a back-up should I needed one while away from the shop.

Since that time, earlier this year I replace the leaking radiator and have only single clamps on there now.

Note: Any time I have my hood open for any length of time at my shop, I'll take my air hose and blow out the engine bay. Helps keep the dust out of there.

That engine bay is beautiful! What A/C setup is that?

I had The Valve Cover 2F Polished at a Local Brass Shop , Then simply applied RED PASTEL Lacquer To the

Embossed TOYOTA and 2F Logos w/ artist brush , this was my first time attempting to

" High Performance UP " a Land Cruiser Valve Cover in any Fundamental way . i recently spoke to the new owners

and they reported back the
bells and whistles were holding up quite well . I wondered a bit because i had

applied NO clear coat to the cover , or anything else for that matter . , simply a BUFF-OUT & The
RED ?

......What A/C setup is that?

It is an old CCOT (Cool Cruisers of Texas) unit.

If I were to install one today, I'd probably go with the Old Air Product CAP-200B unit. It has a similar look as the CCOT, but the controls are on the face of the AC unit. This would eliminate the need to drill two holes in the dash for the two AC control knobs, like the CCOT's does.

Thanks for your order Will

Thanks for the bump. I think I have one valve cover left of that type. Per my sig line, I am off for the holiday. PM me your number and I will call you Monday when I can check.

www.marksoffroad.net

Just sent you a PM for more used parts. I need some OEM driver's side seat sliders and a replacement intake manifold.

Thx!

Talk with you soon.

That Clifford valve cover has to be good for an additional 15-20 HP, right?
