I decided to add some Dynaliner to the backsides of the door cards. This stuff supposedly reduces noise, vibration and heat. Figured it can’t hurt. I ran it all the way to the edges of the panels initially but the thickness of the material (1/8”) prevented the fasteners from clicking home. I cut it back 2” from the edge and they click right in now.

Added a hole for the tweeter part of the new component speakers I’m adding to the front doors.

I’ll post my thoughts on the Dynaliner once I’ve lived with it a while; hopefully it works out.

Nicely done Ed... I need to get something like that together so I can replace my door panels. Most of mine are nasty and dead.

Interior Update

Well it’s been a long wait but the interior of my truck made a big leap forward last week when I got it back from the upholsterer. I worked with a local shop to recover the seats, door cards, etc. and also install a @dnp carpet kit. This work coupled with the sound deadening that I added has made a HUGE difference to the driving experience in my truck. It’s night and day! No more huge ‘clanks’ when I hit a bump. The truck rides tight and quiet and incredibly comfortable. Did I mention I added seat heaters??

So without further ado let me post some pictures of progress getting to this point...

After adding Dynamat throughout the interior I added another layer of Dynaliner. I really like this stuff. It lays down easy and really adds a noticeable level of sound deadening.

I picked up cargo panels from @TRAIL TAILOR. These things are made of 3/16” aluminum and are stout as hell! Came with a mess of hardware and they fit up perfectly.

I made a jig to cut out holes for my 6x9 speakers with the plasma torch. Worked out nicely. At this point I wasn’t sure if I’d paint them myself or powder coat them.

I posted a teaser photo of the Bestop front seats recovered a few weeks ago. I was going for a sort of vintage sports car vibe. The shop that did the work specializes in hot rods and custom interiors. The shop owner is a real craftsman and, with a minimum of input, he handily brought my ideas to life. The quality of the work appears top notch. I’m really happy.

Several weeks ago the seats were done:

The upholstery shop convinced me to cover the cargo panels. I was hesitant at first but I really like the way they turned out.

I’ll have to be a little more careful about chucking things in the back but I can deal with that.

The new interior is a mix of leather and matching vinyl. The color is more red than I had been going for initially but I’m digging it, no regrets. I also know some might be thinking the truck has lost some utility with this interior work. For my daily driver though it’s great and I’m confident it will wear nicely over time. I plan to DD this rig for at least the next five years. After that who knows? It may become a dedicated overland rig.

Thanks for following.

This looks great dude!

I agree you’ll have to be more careful with the rear cargo panels covered. One idea would be to add a simple tubular bar attachment, since your backing panel is aluminum this could be added easily. Something that would sit off the vinyl an inch or two and run the length of the panel in the most susceptible area. That or you can just stick to groceries now

Dude. That looks awesome, and it it's primary duty is DD, then the interior setup looks perfect. Just need up bring your tool box up to par with the rest of the interior if you put it back in there. :hillbilly:

looks good...you've put a lot of work into that. What are you using to capture the fastner on the interior panels in the cargo area? I put in some crude wood panels on my truck but I keep having issues with the screws coming out, as I recall I used some type of plastic insert in the body panel...and the screw bites into that....but over time the screws come loose.

That looks amazing. do you have any details of the door cards and how the upper metal part was attached to the door card?
Gary
I’m also interested in this. Seems to be the trickiest part of redoing the door cards...

Sorry, not a ton of info. There were some tabs at the top of the factory panels where the metal attached to it. When looking at one of the newly redone panels I believe I saw the the metal had been riveted to the wood portion of the panel. Wish I could be more definetive. If I pop the door panels off any time some I’ll take some photos and post up.
