I think this is market dependent. In my opinion Ford has been one of if not the most egregious on marking up their vehicles. DFW Ford dealers are still asking $5-$10k over MSRP on things like F150 Raptors or any trim Bronco and they have plenty of selection on the lot. You can probably find something at sticker if you go to one of the small town rural dealerships but then you are less likely to get one at all with their 1-2 allocations per year.

Sadly I’ve seen many Toyota dealers around here turn heel over the last couple years as well and the salesman where I bought my 4Runner from at MSRP has since retired. I talked shop with another salesman up there a few weeks ago and he was adamant that the new Platinum Tundra on the show room floor could not go for less than $5k over due to “market conditions” 🙄 I was adamant that I would not be buying another vehicle from them if that was their current stance.

I have seen Ram and GM go back to discounting their stuff. Ram pretty aggressively, GM less but still $1-$2k under on stuff like Sierras and Yukons.

On another note Lexus and really all the Sewell dealerships around here regardless of brand have been some of the nicest, easiest people to work with. Low pressure, no mark ups, (yes they add window tint and ppf stuff but if you put the word in before the vehicle hits the lot that you don’t want any of that they are happy to oblige) No money down to get on their “list” for a GX, meanwhile Park Place wants a $1k deposit. I have a problem handing over money when there is no goods or services they can offer me right away.
Great info for a fellow DFW'er, thank you. Have you heard how Longo Toyota of Prosper is at pricing or deposits?

Never dealt with them before. I have (or maybe had) a good relationship with Cowboy Toyota in East Dallas. Unfortunately the guy I bought my 4R from a couple years ago has retired. I do have a good relationship with one of the service advisors over there if you are ever in need.

Toyota of Richardson has been good to me in the past as well as Sports City. Whatever you do stay the absolute heck away from Toyota of Dallas.

This is 100% true. Recognizing I’m in the minority, I’d actually love an outdated reliable LC. I’d love a 60 series with manual locks and windows, and a power train swap. 😁
I'd love a 70-series Troopy with a petrol V8 personally.

Got to ride in one of those at an underground mine up in Canada (seemed to have an I-6 diesel and a manual). The miners didn't quite get my Toyota nerd excitement to finally ride in a 70-series, much less underground.

Would be an amazing truck for sure and way cooler/better built than a Jeep Gladiator (ironically I had a diesel Gladiator as a rental on that trip - nice but didn't convert me to Jeep life :)).

Thanks for the tips. I just tried Google search to check out Longo of Prosper, which took me to some great experiences from 4Runner people.

Then went to their website.
"Longo Toyota of Prosper has 100% price transparency - never pay a market adjustment nor additional dealer markups."

That's great to know, it's close by and my son-in-law works there in service. I wasn't sure if I could get a family discount but sounds like they are fair regardless.

Any advice for the west side folks?

We're already seeing price cuts and full inventory at almost every brand except Toyota. It's just a matter of time before this self-corrects a bit. I think within a year or so we'll see GX's priced around $75k msrp selling for high 60's. The signs are there. You can buy a PowerWagon for $59k today, a diesel powerwagon for mid $60's. I see Raptors at $5k under MSRP. Tundra 1794 with the TRD OR package are around $65-68k and you can buy them off the lot now. I think the price correction is already started and just hasn't hit some Toyota/Lexus models yet because Toyota's chosen to lose market share rather than increase production. That model works until it doesn't. At some point Toyota will increase production to stem the losses in market share and they'll have to start competing on price again.
I got $3k off msrp on a new is500 in April… not a Toyota truck, but still a model that had insane mark ups just a few months ago

Nice! My wife had a first gen IS250. Many years ago, but it was a great car. I never understood why they didn't use that platform for Lexus SUVs. An RX500 with that powertrain and layout? It would be so much better!

I bought my 460 at Sewell Lexus. I take my wife's BMW to Sewell BMW in Plano. Both are great.

I looked at GXs at Park Place and had work done on my 470 at Park Place in the past. They were nice too. Sewell just had the better vehicle and deal.

If they're anything like the Longo Toyota/Lexus in Los Angeles (and it looks like they're the same - they share the same logo), they're easy to work with. They've been MSRP only for a long time, and we (my brother and I) bought a 2022 GX460 and a Tacoma TRD Off Road off of them at MSRP in 2021, deep during the shortages. The only problem is that people know they're MSRP only so the lists to get any model you want are huge.

Thank you for the info, yes they are the same Penske owner's.

This one had me cracking up.

LoL... Too Funny.

With that being said, if you simply look at the crossover/midsize car segment, one would see that not an ounce of original thought was put into any of these projects. If Toyota actually looks at something interesting, and comes up with the own in house, reliable version of the defender or bronco, thats awesome.

It's hard to know how that played out back then. From what I can tell, the guy who claimed to have crated it with Winnebago is dead. One historical claim is that there was a Toyota exc named Tohasheau who was involved in creation of the Trekker as a joint venture type deal. That seems to make more sense because Toyota provided the matching fabric and interior materials for the seats to be built and the base vehicles for it. My dad worked at Winnebago around that time. I've never asked if knew about it. It was sold as a Winnebago product initially rather than a Toyota model. There's a few early magazine articles and advertisements for it as a Winnebago vehicle.

It makes a lot more sense to me that the FJ40 ended in 83 and 4Runner introduced in 84 to replace it the next model year. It's possible that they told dealers 3 years ahead of time that they were discontinuing the FJ40 line. On one hand - why else would they start building a replacement? On the other hand - I agree that it seems unlikely for even Toyota to know in advance that they were ending production that far out when they didn't have a clear replacement in the pipeline.

The other part that doesn't make as much sense is that the FJ60 wasn't functionally all that different from a Trekker. And it was objectively better at carrying 4 people. I can see why you'd build a 1st gen 4Runner to replace the FJ40. That's an obvious connection. The Bronco and Blazers of that era were popular and very similar in concept. But the Trekker with a fixed top doesn't really do anything that the FJ55 and FJ60 didn't already do better with the exception of being more fuel efficient. And it appears that they were basically the same price at around $13k in 1983. The FJ40 was about $6k. So why would you buy the Trekker?
The Winnebago discussion stirred a memory about the axle issues with the early models

I heard through the Plano grapevine to pay attention to this CarsGuide Australian article for a new Toyota LandCruiser Prado GR Sport. It has a more realistic Land Cruiser rendering to me than many of the others out there.

It does not look like it would take much to give it retro round headlights to align with the US version information that is out there. I think it is safe to assume the source is pointing us in the right direction with the retroish grill. I thanked them for sharing it with me and asked them if it's true the US version will in fact have round headlights. (update: their reply was there will be several trims.)

Here it is with a round headlight I dropped on the rendering for concept.
