I still think the best way to segment the market is to base the 4Runner off the Tacoma and the Land Cruiser off the GX. I would tilt the LC more to the off road side of the GX (Overtrail).
Looks like you got a peek at the plans, that's the way it's headed, in general terms.

What will be interesting is the Prado situation honestly.
So in the past, people got the Prado over the big LC because it was smaller and more nimble.
Now with the new gen from what we have seen with the GX, the size is pretty much almost the same as the LC300, except that the LC300 has a more powerful engine and might even be lighter ( not confirmed yet but it does use more aluminum panels - though that could balance out with interior fittings) anyway you get the point.

In the Middle East they will sell the new Prado alongside the LC300, honestly it better be priced competitively to justify its existence alongside the big daddy LC300 because don't forget we also get basic LC300s as well that are priced cheaper than you expect.

Definitely,

The thing about platform builds is while it is inherently more efficient, there is only so much you can really do differentiate with that platform. This ultimate boils down to the LC/LX, the GX /LC, the Tunda/Sequioa, and the Tacoma and 4Runner are essentially repackaging the same s***. Thats not say that any of these vehicles are going to be bad, quite the contrary as there will be more consistency throughout the lineup.

@Landcruiser949, posted a video on his CruisingTheLand youtube channel on June 4th. He explains he has been invited by a marketing company, "who has been engaged by Toyota" to meet with owners of Land Cruisers from 2010 and newer for a "Marketing Survey'' meeting on or about June 5th in California. He was under the impression it is to ask Land Cruiser owners what they want in a new Land Cruiser.

Those following the Toyota forums for the last year or so knew the new Land Cruiser was already being launched. In fact, user @Carmaker1, an industry insider who posts on a number of Toyota forums, has posted that he had heard about it back in October 2019 in posts going back a year or more. Any marketing surveys that affected the design would have taken place 4 or 5 years ago.

By connecting the dots here is what we can surmise, Toyota has hired Saatchi & Saatchi of Los Angeles, who has been Toyota's advertising agency for more than 20 years, to conduct the meeting, which is again, is being held in California. So what could the meeting really be about? We are about 3 to 5 months from the Land Cruiser Reveal and about 9 months from the launch. Now is the perfect time for a marketing company to start planning the marketing campaign they want to rollout. It is believed the price point of the new Land Cruiser will move down market, to compete with the Bronco Badlands and Jeep Rubicon models. There will be an entire new demographic of buyers Toyota wants to reach and what better way to rollout the new model than by touting its heritage. We know that works, look at the similar Bronco marketing campaign and the backlog of buyers.

@Landcruiser949 said he has to sign an NDA so he will not be able to share what he learns. You can see from his video he owns a driveway and garage full of Land Cruisers. I see he is a member here but has not posted since 2020, perhaps some of you know him?

if they actually down market the new LC to compete with the Badlands, I would be all in. Working overseas, we do fairly well but i have almost no desire to entertain the absurd pricing on new vehicles these days. While I've had a sequoia and LC80 in the past, nothing really blows me away this days. 70k for a sequoia with a s***ty cargo area. 100k for an LX with 22 inch wheels, feel a little sillly.

I really like what the GX is looking like but it sounds like the overtrain is going to approach raptor price levels and not have a raptor level suspension.

The overttrail with a Toyota badge, and synthetic seat covers vs leather seat covers for around 50k feels right and I would probably line up for a preorder.

If memory serves it's closer to 40 years.

I have no doubt the LC is going to move down market but I still do not think it is going to be comparable to the Rubicon and Badlands except maybe in price range. Being based off the GX it will of course be down market from where it was when they went for 90K. I am no pricing expert, especially with inflation today, so I will use Car and Driver's estimates for the GX which are between $60k and $80k depending on model. So I imagine the LC will probably start in the $50k-$60k range.

One dealer told me that they “didn’t have pricing, but expect the GX to be $80-90k”

Too damn high. For that cost I'd prefer a LC200 Heritage edition on the used market.

16 minutes into this Kirk K video he estimates pricing.

I agree. Current model is $60-70k. I don’t see how that bumps $20k.

$65-75k seems reasonable. They are removing currently included off-road features from the Premium and Luxury. Hard to do that and increase price significantly.

We're already seeing price cuts and full inventory at almost every brand except Toyota. It's just a matter of time before this self-corrects a bit. I think within a year or so we'll see GX's priced around $75k msrp selling for high 60's. The signs are there. You can buy a PowerWagon for $59k today, a diesel powerwagon for mid $60's. I see Raptors at $5k under MSRP. Tundra 1794 with the TRD OR package are around $65-68k and you can buy them off the lot now. I think the price correction is already started and just hasn't hit some Toyota/Lexus models yet because Toyota's chosen to lose market share rather than increase production. That model works until it doesn't. At some point Toyota will increase production to stem the losses in market share and they'll have to start competing on price again.

The Overtrail models both come with NuLuxe. Luxury are the only 2 trims with leather.

I'd choose softex/nuLuxe over leather without hesitation if they were both the same price. It's more durable, more comfortable, easier to clean, zero maintenance. It really should be the premium material. We bought our RX350 with leather and 4Runner with softex on the same day. After a decade the softex looks new. You could legitimately put it back in a new showroom model and you couldn't tell it had been used for a decade. The leather - it looks like 10 year old leather. No rips, tears, or major damage, but it's clearly well worn. And the life of the 4Runner has been far more harsh with camping, dogs, kids, hauling wood and building materials. I hope that's the standard fabric in the new Land Cruiser.

I would agree. LC should get a more rugged interior. Leave the leather for the Lexus.

Re: the LC competing with the Rubicon and Badlands, I guess I need clarification about what that means. To me it means:

1. Having a removable top- I highly doubt it.
2. Having dual lockers (or triple)- Possible
3. Having a sway bar disconnect- Is KDSS close enough? I think the 4Runner will probably get a disconnect and LC will keep KDSS.
4. Front solid axle to compete with Jeep?= I highly doubt it.

I think this is market dependent. In my opinion Ford has been one of if not the most egregious on marking up their vehicles. DFW Ford dealers are still asking $5-$10k over MSRP on things like F150 Raptors or any trim Bronco and they have plenty of selection on the lot. You can probably find something at sticker if you go to one of the small town rural dealerships but then you are less likely to get one at all with their 1-2 allocations per year.

Sadly I’ve seen many Toyota dealers around here turn heel over the last couple years as well and the salesman where I bought my 4Runner from at MSRP has since retired. I talked shop with another salesman up there a few weeks ago and he was adamant that the new Platinum Tundra on the show room floor could not go for less than $5k over due to “market conditions” 🙄 I was adamant that I would not be buying another vehicle from them if that was their current stance.

I have seen Ram and GM go back to discounting their stuff. Ram pretty aggressively, GM less but still $1-$2k under on stuff like Sierras and Yukons.

On another note Lexus and really all the Sewell dealerships around here regardless of brand have been some of the nicest, easiest people to work with. Low pressure, no mark ups, (yes they add window tint and ppf stuff but if you put the word in before the vehicle hits the lot that you don’t want any of that they are happy to oblige) No money down to get on their “list” for a GX, meanwhile Park Place wants a $1k deposit. I have a problem handing over money when there is no goods or services they can offer me right away.

Ugh 😣 I’m still holding out a sliver of hope that we get a 300 Series variant that’s not in LX form. I really wish Toyota would have just given North America a complete Land Cruiser line up and never bothered with things like the Sequoia and Highlander.
Not gonna happen, Toyota was just selling a handful of these units before it was discontinued. Very select few wanted to pay $100k for an outdated but durable SUV.

They could have offered other trims. The LC300 starts around $45k. It doesn't have to start at $100k. It isn't anywhere in the world I know of except the USA. Even the GR Sport triple locked diesel with low gears is only $76k USD.

Just for fun - An FJ40 in 1980 was about $6000 MSRP. Adjusted for inflation that's $21k today. If Toyota built a modern FJ40 for $21k - they'd never be able to produce enough.

This is 100% true. Recognizing I’m in the minority, I’d actually love an outdated reliable LC. I’d love a 60 series with manual locks and windows, and a power train swap. 😁
