Personally I think the 60/80/100 are all good looking. Least favorite style would be 2008/2011 200 LC. Things picked up again for the 200's looks from 2012 IMHO.

Wish I could disagree with you, since I own an '08, but never was one who cared more for form over function. That said, the looks are growing on me like they did for the 80 when it came out, and the 100 when it came out. Only took 5-6 years for each to finally find a spot in my heart looks wise. Mods certainly help. As far as function… I wouldn't go back to any of them other than the 40 (and I already have one) which is a whole different beast entirely.

I miss my 40. Shame I could not keep it.

(Glad to see I am not the only one up a 5:00 a.m. Watching Fox News, drinking from the French press and checking MUD)

Everytime Toyota/Lexus "updates" the LC/LX they make it uglier. My 80 series was good looking, my 100 series still better then other brands but not as good as my 80 series and my 200 series looks like all the others not very special. I keep buying for the quality and dependability.

Finally someone agrees with me :). I love my 100 series and, even after being in a 2014 Lexus LX, I would still prefer the old cruiser because of Reliability. The 200 Lexus version had so much electronics, I am gonna laugh when everything goes wrong with it and, it is not under warranty. Currently looking to try out the 80 for my next SUV just for fun. I know that they are reliable, durable, and built to last. I will definitely go through and buy one if the United States market gets stuck with another loaded version (Probably going to happen anyways) :(.

Same thing I thought when I bought my 100 new in 1998, replacing my 60 that I had been driving since new in 1987. I was proven very wrong. The 100 was much more reliable than my 60 ever was, even when comparing my 300k mile 100 to my new 60.

I bought a new LX in March and expect it to be even more reliable than my 100 was, plus a heck of a lot more comfortable.

Electronics are here to stay and going to be more and more integrated in our systems. With that in mind I changed how I own cars now. I buy an extended warranty at about a 20,000 miles a year interval and then sell the vehicle at the end of it. With our 200 I bought 6 years 125,000 miles and since we put almost exactly 20,000 miles a year on it we'll sell it right at the end of 6 years. No way will I keep a car that relies so much on electronics for everything past warranty. Sure my 60 takes more work and fails more often but its easy and cheap to fix. Have anything electronic fail on the 200 and its going to be big bucks to fix. Imagine the cost of replacing the touchscreen that controls all the settings, a/c, heat, etc not to mention the electronic brains of crawl, atrac, abs, traction control. So many systems are linked that one failure affects several systems.

If you do a search I doubt you will find many expensive failures on 100 or 200 series. Your 125k warranty costs you way more then all your repairs will total unless you don't do the recommended maintance. But then they won't honor your warranty. You are one person that should buy a Range Rover since then the warranty might be useful :). JMHO

Nope, don't need to do a search because I have been driving LCs for 20 years. While they are great they do have parts that fail. The more electronics they add thr more chance of failure. The mystique of better parts and assembly of LC's goes out the window when you are sharing electronics with much of the Toyota lineup. Mine will be out of warranty in less than 2 years of ownership so I will have $410 dollars a year invested in full coverage for the 4 extra years of warranty. I'll take that any day. JMHO. No reason to get nasty and mention a Range Rover :)

It's all about the $$$ and the coverage. Would you share that info?

Sure. I shopped around and my dealer matched the best price I found. 6 year 125,000 mile for 1624.00 Jerry Johnson at Midwest Toyota in Kansas gave me the best quote. I found his contact doing a search on a Toyota owners web page. The new Toyota rule is you have to buy it in person or in your state you can do it by mail but I used Jerry's quotes to negotiate with my dealer.

If my warranty has expired (80k miles and a 2011 (I am the 2nd owner)) is there a way to still get an extended warranty?

Those are great prices. I bought with 40k miles, and purchased an additional 3 years or 75k miles for around $1200. Direct from Toyota

That would be a great selling point. Warranted forever to original new lc buyer. Basically telling the vehicle world this is best built SUV ever, period. A couple of toyota dealers in the south offer something like this on their new toyotas.

should be seeing some spy shots or something on the 300 series in the next 6 months or so.... imo...

"The first nameplate Toyota sold in the United States, eliminating the Land Cruiser for slow sales would be a major loss of face. It also carries big margins, and it sells well in markets where the roads aren’t as nice or don’t exist at all. A redesign for the 2017 model year would be on cadence."

Based on your original post and ownership plan, along with the price of the warranty as long as it covers the stuff that concerns you $1600 for your personal peace of mine makes sense. Please post at the end of warranty and ownership if it saved you money. I know it's making you sleep better. My LX570 has 30k miles and its 3 years old. I bought it 6 months ago used. I will be driving it an average of maybe 5k miles a year. In 15 years I'll be a little over 100 k miles and I will be about 81 years old if I live that long. I'm putting my money on the LX570 and even my LX470 with 130k miles out lasting me, and cheaper to maintain ;)
