I also have a 13 LX, >10 years now. Those just don’t seem to stay in place. The first few years I would replace them. I’ve since removed them all, ~7 years now. I like not having them. The groove they fill works as a nice hand hold for putting things on and off the rack.
Just picked up a 14 LX this weekend, notices some random rubber moldings were missing. good to know they fly out, rather than a sign of someone messing with them. are there any water damage concerning with not running them? Any exposed holes or other leak paths now that you removed them?

I’m in Alaska. Tons of snow and ice in the winter and lots of rain in the summer. Like I said ~7 years now with all of them gone and I haven’t had any leaks/damage. They look to be cosmetic to me.

That area is where the body side panels are welded to the roof, then a sealant is applied, smoothed, then painted over.

My (very) long-term concern with leaving them open would be UV degradation of this area then failure of the sealant. Leaves/pollen/dirt collecting in this area then decomposing can also be an issue, depending on where you live. All made worse if you don't garage your rig.

Plus, when they are installed correctly, and here's the important part.. no one goes ham on them with a pressure washer... they stay in place as toyota designed.

Hoping y’all can help me out- I just discovered that the rubber “inserts” that go into my factory roof rack/rails are missing- I discovered they were missing after a quick run thru a car wash.

I would like to replace them but I can’t seem to find the part number or name them correctly to find them. Any help would be appreciated!
Just seeing this, I think the rubber holds moisture in, had a rack installed and OEM rack bolts rusted and then stripped, I'm leaving them off now.

My OEM rubber molding flew out everytime I took the LX to the "GO" car was, high pressure sprayer, just left them out with new rack install/

No. The picture in post number 6 is missing one of the short pieces. The LX has a shorter roof rack and the plastic part in post 2 clips onto a metal bracket that fills the holes that aren't being used by the longer LC rack.

For an LX it goes windshield trim, short molding, plastic rectangle, short, rack foot, long, plastic rectangle, long, rack foot, really short rear piece.
Any idea what sealant is used to hold down the edge of windshield trim? This is sealant I pulled off.

FSM specifies a “flexible epoxy” to hold a small stainless steel spring clip to the channel, and the windshield trim clips into that stainless part. There shouldn’t be any sealant holding the windshield trim down, it’s all mechanical into that stainless clip, the white plastic ones along the A pillar, and where it hits the cowl cover at the bottom.

They definitely didn’t do that with yours.
