OK, I don't have any measurements from when the OEM air bags were still in the vehicle and functioning properly, but I did measure the GX last night, as it was sitting on level ground, and the distance from the center of the hub to the wheel lip measured 21 5/8" Also, below is a photo of the truck the day we installed the rear springs.

can anyone tell me if fj springs would be ok. i already installed bilstein 5100's in the rear that were meant for an fj. i just want to keep all the parts in sync.

They would work. I am using FJ spring cups with Prado lift springs and they fit fine.

No guys. Would the compression/rebound match the gx's needs better than the 4runners. I read somswhere the fj is heavier out back than a 4runner is.

Ride is still intermittently poor as it was with the oem shocks. It seems that now the front shocks dont work with the control comfort knob. So, i will be putting 5100's up front too. I did not pull any relays as i still need my airbags. It feels like they deflate a bit overnight. Should i be pulling ride comfort fuse for the oem front shocks?

I'm not understanding how anything would function if the brains were unplugged. The rear shocks were unplugged and that alone stopped the front shocks from being adjusted.

I've been dissecting this thread word for word so forgive me on my comprehension but as for the perch for the rear, are the original perch on the rear diff sufficient to retain the springs? Are the spring perch supplied by strutmaster in their kit unnecessary for this coil spring conversion?

I've never seen anyone use any aftermarket perches. The stock one is sufficient. All you need is a hold down and isolator for the top.

AlabamaLX,

Thank you very much for the info. You've clarified it for me. I definitely will go with the Arnotts. I also like the retaining bracket very much. Again, thank you to all you guys for your input and advice.

Hey guys,
I am seeing a trend here as my wife’s 2004 GX 470’s air bags are leaking AGAIN. I had it into Lexus 2 years ago and they replaced the both bags and compressor. But the last couple of days when driving it she says that it feels like my old 1 ton truck I used to have. I drove it around yesterday and when you hit a bump (in Oklahoma that all the roads) the back end HITS like a freaking box truck. But every other driving condition is as normal soft comfy ride? Is the issue the bags or the air shocks?
I suggested that we just put a 2 inch lift on it and be done with it but she is NOT HAVING IT!!!! She said that’s why we bought your 80 series Land Cruiser. HEHEHEHEHE. She wants stock height and ride quality. I have a little mechanical experience and have friends that are mechanics so I am not really afraid of a little fab work but with that being said it is my wife’s car and she will be driving my 1 year old boy around in it.
I know that this is a long post but I would love to hear what “KITS” you are running for Stock Height closest to OEM as possible. I just want to be done with the damn problems with the bags.
Thanks in advance,
Travis

Hi Guys, I finally did it. Replaced all 4 coils and struts with ironmans, inserted the bump stops from the fj cruisers, and did the retention bracket like AlabamaLX did to secure the rear coils in place. I pulled the big relay and both 10amp fuses from the hood compartment. Been driving for about 8 months now with no problems. Only thing is the dash light for the ACH keeps blinking "OFF". I lived with it for 8 months now but honestly I'm tired of seeing it. What am I missing? How can I turn that light off?
