We made it 377 miles today. Sunflower did amazing other than 2 times it lost spark. First time it started right up second time I had to clean points and connections. After cleaning and sanding points she ran perfectly.

Desmog, headers, and exhaust helped a lot in the mountains. Pulled great up steep grades without missing a beat. Significant increase in power and engine ran a lot smoother.

Mustard 40’s 😍 Your suspension and various components have landed in Topeka, KS. I got rid of my points and went with the pertronix. Easy and inexpensive fix.
Agree on the pertronix, but I’ve had 2 fail (once in the FJ and once in my Ferguson tractor), so now I keep a spare for each. Both times they failed with no notice. I’ve heard some keep a spare set of points/condenser in the glovebox as a backup, but since I also removed the original coil/ignitor, I’ve read the higher voltage pertronix coil can quickly burn/pit the points.

I’m very excited for my new suspension especially after 8 hours of driving today😂

I am definitely considering going to electronic ignition of some sort pertronix, DUI distributor, or maybe later Toyota electronic ignition

Also now carry a spare injector for the Sniper TBI carb as well after watching @POTATO LAUNCHER dissect a failed Sniper last year at SAS. 👍

I have had neumoris black box ignition failures and none of them gave any notice of failure - they just quit. I have only had one points failure - the arm snap off - mopower. I have had to monkey with the points on occasion, fine by me.

Good idea. The Holly Sniper uses a proprietary Fuel Injector ( 522-101X) that is easily replaced but not an off the shelf part. Having a couple in your glove box is a good idea.

Wait. You were watching him work on Josh’s too! Man I stink connecting people to a MUD handle.

It was a master class watching and learning from @POTATO LAUNCHER!! And not just the mechanics/process either. Include his attitude..He was on vacation from his vocation and still had smiles.

Don’t forget, we contributed as well. Standing around with a beer saying “yep” every now and again is invaluable assistance.

Also, always be sure to offer Casey @POTATO LAUNCHER a hand or advice as often as possible. He really enjoys it.

True, we did do that.

I can model my techniques after my ex in that case!

The factory '76 with points and igniter is a solid ignition system. Plus, the wires for it, as opposed to Pertronix, are already in the factory harness. It isn't like the full spark is going across the points. Once the dwell is set, you should be good. If the igniter dies, you can re-wire it with just points and condenser.

I'd consider the ignition switch, if it is old, as a potential culprit for lost spark.

I have stickers! I will be selling these to help cover gas costs for my trip. The small will be $3 and the large will be $5. DM me or send a text to 662-729-7860 to order. I will be accepting PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, or cash.

I am also working on a design for a t-shirt that will have all my sponsors on the back. If anyone else is interested in sponsoring my trip the deadline to be on the shirt will be January 31st. All sponsors will receive a shirt and stickers.

Thank you to everyone for supporting and following my journey!
