Maltec 200 tearing up the dunes in Douze Tunisia... bad ass nothing else in our group could touch it. Running weight 6800lbs wet.

Curious what other vehicles you had in your group?

Wow. So I guess that means youActually LOSE overall weight chopping out the stock rear body/seats even after adding interior doodads? Or close to it...?
Pretty dang cool.
Yes less weight than a stock 200 and he also carries 2 full size spares

@ToyotaIsLife , sorry to hear you're a bit banged up. You got some serious height there from the pics. The vids don't look like they're shared at the moment?
No worries!, only two things got damaged right axle cv joint and engine mounts. Still running smooth thankfully. I removed the video because I am in the process of re editing it.

It's a HUGE factor in the dunes for sure

Absolutely, just can't image it weight that much more than some of those other vehicles. Oddly the vehicle of choice for the dunes along Africa's Skeleton coast is the FZJ75 p/u :D

Zero gas anywhere turbo diesel a must. Our team leaders has logged 1000's of miles in the dunes a true driving education for me. Our team reached the tallest dune in Tunisia in 5 days. Viewed as an unbelievable feat by the locals.

Very cool! I've seen some tidbits about your trip, do you have a thread about it anywhere? What exactly are y'all up to?

@LandCruiserPhil @Markuson are you saying that a stock 200 weighs over 6800#? Or, are you saying that a 200 outfitted with equal equipment to the Maltec rig would weigh more than 6800#?

Published curb weight of a 2008 URJ200 is 5690# FWIW.

Similarly equipped.
He’s got a steel bumper & winch....huge fuel tank, water tank...and a physically larger rear body filled with RV level doodads... Looks like 35” tires... That it’s only 6800 is pretty surprising.

As phil is local to Phoenix, I had a second chance to go over the build and materials used to make the cabin on the maltec.

it is all composites. I work for a composites manufacturer and our material is 1/17th the weight of steel and stronger (depending on build specifications)
it isn't hard to see how they can remove hundreds of pounds of steel, seats, electronics and replace it with much lighter materials.
on the Tunisia truck, there are no second doors, no windows, and a whole lot of steel removed.

sounds like you guys are having a blast @LandCruiserPhil, have any shots of the interior?

thanks for posting your adventures

No thread just getting real internet for the first time in a couple weeks of funding. Working our way back to Germany and then to the USA.

Tons of pics but you need to wait until I return to the USA

Good looking rig, where did you source the "retro Toyota decals"?

Pretty sure he made those himself.

Matt’s got skills!
