I only took a few crappy videos. Ill post some photos later on... Fully rebuilt 1HD-T engine with new H55 installed into 85 FJ60. Its the best driving 60 . IMO a lot nicer to drive than a 12HT.

porn .. bit noisy the engine .. was cold ?

exact drive train that I need in Tencha .. :D

nice

very nice,

just got the new bell housing for mine after searching all over

I have one ready to go into my 40 but am toying with the rebuild idea--just mulling over costs

so the engine is rebuilt and the h55 new? should see ya for the next milliion miles or so:steer::clap:

Curious also on driving impressions vs the 12HT---in what way different or better?

Ah, yeah, thats what I am waiting for.

Starting a 1 HZ conversion in a 62.

Few questions:

I assume the motor is rebuilt? Did you do it? If not, what was cost?

Did you cross over the exhaust to use the stock hangers instead of keeping on the passenger side?

Thank, nice truck.

The owner is currently 500 miles into a 2000 mile road trip home with it. Getting started on that million miles I guess.

Ive done 12HT conversions and I like the turbo 1HZ and the 1HD-T better. The engines are lighter weight, rev more like a modern engine, and at least the HD-T has more pull. Dont get me wrong I like the 12HT but the HD is less tractor and more fun.

Yes the engine is fully rebuilt including the IP and injectors. I did the rebuild (did not personally do the machine work) .

The second video shows the exhaust routing. Ill add photos later.

Good luck with your conversion.

Very, very cool.

Did you swap input shafts on the H55, or were you able to order a new one for the 1HZ?

Tell the owner I demand a mileage report. A 1HD-T, H55f and a 60 seem to be just about the best idea ever for an efficient wagon cruiser, IMHO. I filled up Guzzler this week and was dreaming of exactly that combo...

Does seem loud. 81s do have a ton of sound deadening material in the engine bay though...

old engine out. New bellhousing mounted to the 4 speed to help locate the engine. 2F mounts cut out and engine hanging in place for the first attempt to locate the engine to get the mounts in place.

Now it just needs a good turbo, an intercooler and some boost :-)

By the way, I always thought the same thing about the 12HT - yes they are more like a tractor and while redline is 4k, they never seemed to want to go there.

Well, changing the turbo helped alot but really, as did putting on a 3" exhaust, but what made it want to rev was installing an intercooler (front mount 600x300x75).

Now it revs better than a 1HDT and much more like a 1HD-FT in the way it just flies past the 3k mark. The end result was full boost early and you could rev it if you want to.

I had always wondered about why the torque fell away so badly because when you look at the fuel curve on a factory set 12HT injector pump, peak fuel is flat to 3500rpm and only 5% down at 3800 (fall away from there quickly).

While this might seem OT a bit, you can expect much the same result in all turbo diesels that dont come with intercoolers;it is really worth mentioning because the difference was significant. It felt better even than research which typically shows a 6-7% efficiency improvement through the use of a good intercooler.

Frame mounts coming together. Left mount is actually the 2F mount trimmed to work for the HD. Right mount is all new. The bottom was trimmed a bit after this photo was taken to make sure there was clearance for the diff.

I still say the video makes it sound loud or odd. The engine also only has about 250 miles on it in the video.

By the way, nice work. I love the look of all that freshly machined clean metal!!!!!

One good point for all the DI toyota's, but specifically the 1HDT - the wrecking yards here, when the get a head in stock they can't sell them (they hate them for that reason) because they seldomn crack. A 1HZ might crack if you look at it the wrong way ;-)

Old trans coming out with the engine after the mounts were worked out. Shot of the flywheel... All new part s on the front of the trans. Note the sensor in the bellhousing. Its a VDO inductive pickup. The plan for this build was to use that pickup with a dakota digital signal processor to interface with the gas tach. I never did get it to work. Their signal converter never recognized the signal. I think it was defective but no time to keep toying with it. Ended up using a tiny tach for now.
