Done with it for now. Got the intake on. Wiring harness is through the fire wall. Put on the last few heater hoses (still need to get about 3 hose clamps to finish them off). Started putting the radiator in and said that's enough for now.

I think I screwed up by leaving the radiator sitting out in the sun. Now the cover (plastic) shows a lot of UV damage. I have a feeling i'm going to be replacing this soon. :(

Hopefully tomorrow i will finish getting the radiator in, replace the two small rubber transmission lines (found a hole in one today when going to mount it. Then i need to plug all the plugs inside the glove box back up.

After that, put the battery box and battery back in, pour some oil in it, oil filter, coolant and turn the key. :steer::cheers:

Its here and will go in. Dont let the artificial light fool you. It was gettin dark and late and my fault for not telling him it needs to go in at the same time as the fan cause I just went through this with the radiator install. :whoops:

especially a pain with the added tension on the pulley with the photoman bracket which is way cool but has 4 different bolts of 4 different sizes.

:steer: to a trail near you

It was!! kind of... i was getting real tired and had the shroud in place, then thought it was easier to put it in later.. I was wrong!

Hey CJ, you're almost there now. I know exactly how excited you are to hear it running again. After all the effort and hassles along the way, it's such a relief to here it running as smooth as a Swiss watch!!!

Ah, how well, I remember this stage. That's when I discovered that I somehow buggered up the oil pressure sender harness. Looks great, though; thank you for taking the pictures, I referred to your thread numerous times when I ran into difficulties.

soon it will be ALIVE!!! then you will need to get you AZZ back out on the trail!! :)

just tried to crank her and overlooked the battery! Turned over about 5 times and then died. I'm charging the battery and will try again when it's charged.

Did you put oil in it?

Nice thread, first I've read the entire saga. Nice job on all the pics.

SHE IS ALIVE!!!!

Just walked out and gave another shot at cranking it. Batter had a good enough charge. It fired up!! I only let it run for about 15 seconds and then cut it off. It was sounding pretty good except sounded like the oil still wasn't primed. Going to try again tomorrow.

Here are some pics from today.

pulled the wiring harness into the glove box and snapped everything up and tight. Also drained the fuel and i'm glad i did. It looked brown and nasty.

Whew, finally Alex! Congratulations, this has been a fascinating read all the way through and will no doubt help many others. So glad to hear you fired it up!

Here's the deal... Went out this morning and had a fully charged battery. Double checked fluid levels and cranked it. Started really quick. Let it run and within a few seconds i had good oil pressure. Spent the next 20-30 seconds getting the PS fluid full and trying to get all the air out of the system.

After that, checked the oil pressure and it was still good, but it has a clicking in what sounds like the valves. I turned it off because i was a little worried about the tapping i was hearing. I kind of thought that would go away as it built oil pressure.

Should i just let it continue to run?

I think the 1FZFE has always had a rather noisy valve train. Even after I had my cylinder professionally reco'd, it was much quieter but still had a faint tick. In your case, I guess it depends if you're just being over sensitive to something that is actually normal or you suspect you might have to recheck the clearances.

Maybe listen to another 80s idle just for your own piece of mind. If the gauge says you have oil pressure then it's all good on that front. I guess oil viscosity would have an affect on valve train noise too.

If nothing else other than a PITA, you could just pull the cover and tripple check the valve clearances to be sure to be sure. But, first, I would run it for a nit and give it some gentle revs - if it gets louder then stop and check everything . If it goes away, I'd reckon it's all good.

Well son of a bit.. it sounds EXACTLY like it did before all this work!! WTF! I think i have to pull the valve cover and check the valve clearances.

I'm done with it for now.

Here is a youtube video clip of it. You can't hear at first because i have the camera too close to the fan, but wait and you can hear it. I really think it's a valve out.

It sounds too fast for a valve tick. Valves run at half the crank speed. How about the power steering pump gear?

It should be good. It's a new PS pump.
