After messing around with little things here and there, i realized i needed to start getting the wiring in order. I was worried i had made a mistake, and i am very confident i have now.

Removed the throttle body and EGR to get better access. Then i realized that i'm just going to have to take at least the upper intake off to get the wiring routed correctly. Right now it's jammed behind the intake and EGR and i can't get it down so i can run the wires to the block sensors. :bang:

So, i decided to call it a day. Here's a few shots of the wiring and the mess i have. :censor:

Wow, good, been following it from the beginning and it looks awesome! Keep the faith, you are on the home stretch! I remember my first engine rebuild. I thought it would never get done. Low and behold that 289 is still on the road today.

I have to really thank you for all your detailed photos, it's going to make my eventual job a lot easier. Let along being able to ask q's of folks that have been down the 1FZ-FE rebuild road.

Well, after messing around with it last night for what seemed like eternity and searching mud for photographs, it looks like i'm going to have to remove the lower intake. The wiring harness just is not fitting correctly and i think the reason why is it's supposed to pass through the rear two runners. Mine is completely behind the intake like you can see in the picture above. I can get it close, but there is a bunched up area of wiring harness that will be crammed behind the intake and it just doesn't fit or look right. So, unless i can manage to wiggle the wiring harness around enough to try to worm it up through the intake, i'm going to remove the intake so i can finally get this damn thing finished.

Any advice is appreciated.

Correct. The harness passes between the intakes. I read Beno made a cut in the intake to squeeze the harnees in and out. Any possibility to pull the harness from behind the glove box to snake up between the intakes rather than trying to snake all the connectors down between them? Kind of a reverse approach.

Fantastic build.

Yes the wiring pass through the intake right where the fuel line goes through from the fuel filter to the fuel rail. I would agree with Buckru that pulling them wiring harness from the ecu and then connecting the connections below and then snaking the wiring harness back up and through would be easier. When I did my hg I was able to pull the harness up and through the intake manifold with the top and bottom attached and with out removing the fuel rail

Yep, had to pull the intake so i could snake the wiring up through it. Got it done!

I have some pictures showing it but i'm in the middle of trying to get everything plugged up.

I'm going to need some help IDing the plugs that go into the sensors on the block below the intake. THat's where i'm at now..

Pics coming soon.

OK, here are a few pictures. Really sucked because i had to take everything apart that was already on and torqued, so that really made me angry.

Once i pulled the intake i realized that the PHH hard line was coming off and i at that time decided that i'm going to use one long hose instead of the hard line and the little PHH.

I also took the time to wrap the wiring harness with some protective wrap.

Few more. About to go out and work on it some more.

Any help with the plugs?

the last picture, they go to the five or so sensors under the manifold right behind the alternator. the first pic, hard to tell, but it's not these is it?

Yes, that will do! I really was trying to figure out where the Green plug went, i already had the rear knock sensor (the only one i marked :bang: ) and i figured out where the timing sensor plug went.

So how does a "leaf cigar" get in the plumbing like that?

So how does a "leaf cigar" get in the plumbing like that?

I'm thinking it came from the winter and sitting out with the hose off which opened up the system. Some bug or something must have made a little nest.

Thanks Rick, those pictures help. I should be just about buttoned up by tomorrow.

yeah you and me both; besides if it took any longer I was afraid it would be due for a rebuild when he got done

Keep up the good work, your on the home stretch and then you can go :steer: that thing.

almost there! So close i can taste it...

Got everything plugged up and then put the upper intake on. There are times where you have to contort your body like hudini.

Some more. Also made sure i used the wire brush on the bench grinder and sandpaper on the block to clean up the ground contact points.

more...

Was able to get the EGR and Throttle Body on. I found it easiest to remove the studs, that way it will slide off the large EGR pipe easily..... also easier to replace the same way.
