Figured i would start a new thread as the "tear down" thread is pretty much over.

I will try to take some pictures and detail what all i'm doing and also provide some part numbers as well.

The plan is to completely overhaul the motor and then turbo it following similar lines as landtank.

So to begin, here is a shot of the rig as it sits, parts and a few more things.

All the wires and stuff are really intimidating

Picked up a parts washer from Harbor Freight on sale for $94. This thing is nice and will come in handy for any axle rebuilds also.

first two things i ordered were: Heat tape for the wiring harness. I already have some extra wire protection wrap (Plastic sleeve stuff) so i will use than and then wrap it with the high temp tape.

I also thought i would upgrade the power steering cooler while i was at it. I have had a lot of groans and issues with my power steering so hopefully this will fix it.

Purchased them from Summit Racing:

Cool Tape: DEI-010408..........$13.95
Trans Cooler: BMM-70255........$46.75

Next i took the block and head to the machine shop.

The block is finished but the head is not. I will follow up with that as soon as i get them back.

While the machine shop was doing its magic to the block and head, i called cdan.

Ordered up a few parts

Ever wonder what $1009 in parts looks like:

Still waiting on just a few parts, like another motor mount and a main bearing that is on the slow boat from Japan.

I am so buying one of those! That thing rocks!

$94=24 cans of brake cleaner!

Do you have the before and after flow test sheet? I would like to see the results. Did you use injector clears much? If so what were they?

I do, i just don't have a scanner handy right now to scan it. I used seafoam once and that's it.

I was amazed when they sent the newly rebuilt injectors back they also sent the old "sock screens" that were in the original filters. They were crusty and had all kinds of debris in them.

without scanning the whole thing i can say:

Static variance before: 3.5% after: 1.5%
Pulsed Variance before: 3.6% After: 1.3%
Static flow before -- High: 101 Low: 97.5
Static flow after -- High: 102.5 Low: 101

hope that helps.

geeze this is just getting rediculous!

Not only am i waiting on a bearing from Japan, i went to the machine shop today to pay for the block and give the machinist the valve stem seals so he can finish the head and he was gone. Asked where he was and one of the other guys said he is out cause his friend died in a tree stand over the weekend. had a heart attack while hunting. I asked when to expect him back and they said they don't know, he's takin' it hard!

So............. I did clean some more parts and paint them. Also sanded and painted the frame in a few places. . . . .

Sounds like more than just the local whitetails are getting screwed down your way.

Sorry, just couldn't help myself.

Strange way to go when it comes to treestands, I always hear the stereotypical 'fell out of it' as the bowhunter killer, first time I heard of a heart attack - at least he went doing what he loved.

What all did you have done to the block?

Well at first i was going to bore it over to a 4.6L and have the crank polished and balanced as well as check for any play in the crank. Then replace all the bearings (rod and main). The machinist called me and said that the cylinders were in such good shape he suggested just new rings. He also couldn't find any plan in the crank/rod ends so i didn't replace the "pin bushings".

So basically: cleaned, honed the surface, inspected the oil pump bushing, polished the crank, replaced the bearings, cleaned up the cylinder walls.

Was planning on more but was told really things were in such good shape i would be wasting my money doing any more.

Thats good news! Glad its coming together so easy on the pocket book. LOL

Subscribed, this is in my future. At least the turbo is...

Your doing what 99% of us want to do. Have fun!

P.S. Eastman's has pretty good engine bay and exhaust paint.
