1FZ-FE Thoughts/Clarification

Well, things are moving along even if it is at a snail's pace. Engine has been fully rebuilt and the truck goes into the shop 1Aug. Plan is the 2F comes out Saturday and then we'll see if I got all the right s*** ordered! Mechanic doesn't seem to think it will take him very long to get the swap done, but I've already prepared myself for some delay when we find something missing, or find I ordered the wrong part for something. Murphys law when that happens it'll be a hard to find part...

Minor progress! Life just went haywire right when the truck went into the shop, but a teaser of progress anyway...

@Meshal @gonzopancho @OGBeno @dogfishlake We hit a major roadblock this week. The bell housing I have (31111-60303) definitely matches the 1FZ-FE, but we aren't even remotely close on the H55f. Did I wind up with entirely the wrong bell housing? I was expecting the bolt holes not to match, but this housing is so far off there is airspace on the housing where the H55f bolts are supposed to come through. Are we supposed to drill new bolt holes into the H55f instead of the bell housing?

Obviously the crusty old one is the 2F housing with the H41/42/55 bolt pattern. My appologies for not having a tape measure across them for reference.

On this one left vs. right is obviously reversed since I just put them butt to butt, but at least you can see the general miss-match. How are the Saudis overcoming this?

@gonzopancho @Meshal are either of you closer to producing a direct adaptor housing?

Thanks!

There is no bell housing that fits a 1FZ to an H55F from the factory.

That bell housing fits 1FZ to H15X transmissions.
Understood, but there was discussion earlier in this thread about how in the Middle East they are welding up bolt holes and drilling new ones to adapt this bell housing between the 1FZ and H55f. Now that I have them in front of me, I don't see how this is possible unless there is significantly more involved or I was sent entirely the wrong bell housing?

You may not want to punt what you have but if you want a brand new H150 and brand new associated Tcase I have one sitting here that my boy Brendan purchased out of Japan. Immediate fix and the H150 shifts way better.

That would make for a really nice setup for a 60 series. The packaging issues would be minimal compared to trying to squeeze into a 40 series.
Those H15X transmissions are stout!

It looks like about all that can be done with the H151 bellhousing to H55 would be to mill off the back of the bell off, tig weld a big hunk of aluminum plate on there, and start milling the H55 transmission face. Certainly not impossible, but a good chunk of money or a lot (LOT) of beer to a machinist friend. I am not a machinist, so I go seeking friends that love beer.

No idea. Never heard of that or seen it.

That person said the bellhousing was "filled then drilled", not that the bolt holes were welded up. It's not really a monstrously difficult project to weld in a thick plate, mill it out, and drill holes for your H55. The biggest problem will be finding the center of the bell-housing.

He will need a different transfer case as well. Split case does not mate to an H151F.
I have the associated new part time Tcase as well
