When you pull the valve cover be sure to replace the spark plug tube seals and PCV valve (and grommet). The PCV grommet will likely be hard and crumbly, when replacing it on the workbench you don't have to worry about chunks falling into the engine.

Also keep in mind that the small bolts that secure the valve cover are very fragile. You barely need to tighten these down, not sure what the torque spec is but its minimal.

thanks a lot zach. super helpful. only question i have (and it may be a wild one) is whether pulling the air intake or whatever it is to clear that passage that gets clogged up and throws a p0401 is worth the time when cleaning the valve cover. i did the EGR delete so it doesn’t throw the code and originally figured this would get done with a full head gasket.
not sure if it should or could be done when cleaning the baffles.
probably a dumb question but wasn’t sure...
