Sorry for the delay in posts. I finally got hit with a nasty GI bug that already had gone thru the wife & kids. Anyways, I got my clean injectors back today. They were at 87% spec before Dr. Injector went to work on them. Tomorrow I should get the head back from the machine shop after resurfacing & valve job, and another box of parts from American Toyota in NM. I decided to reuse the old head bolts, since they were all in spec. I am also cutting out & replacing the rusted nuts & bolts on both cats, so I have that to look forward too...
This is probably going to be a marathon weekend in the garage! I will update with more pics asap.

20 yr old head bolts "IN SPEC" okay.
$750. spent on the head to wreck it hahaha
I can't wait to see the finish bawww IN SPEC.... IN SPEC...IN SPEC..

Did I miss something? The shop quoted me under $500. I would think the shop would owe you a new head if they ruined it.

under $500. this thread just gets better and better.
no one in that shop has ever seen a LC head, my guess.
I did my own head.
and when you go to pick it up,
"I didn't know it had 24 valves when I quoted you, it took a long time to bead blast it for $500."

:hhmm:

You make no sense? Wtf does my red vc has any thing to do with the questions? Why don't you explain what your comments means appropriately and base on what facts, other wise don't bother posting at all.

This is a good time to test all the sensors that are in the side of the head as well the VSS's. This is outlined in the FSM.
I strongly recommend the use of an accurately calibrated torque wrench, especially for the head bolt or studs whichever you decide to use.

If you dont have a torque wrench you need one. I use mine all the time. But i think the head bolts go in with out the torque wrench. I did mine by the FSM with 90 degrees twice pattern.

edit, Sorry but you are right. I torqued them to some low number BEFORE doing the 90 degree turns. yep, you still need a torque wrench.

Crank them old head bolts back down till they stop, maybe 110ish lbs.
FSM and "specs" please.
accurately calibrated torque wrench" stop the BS.
Torque value is for assembly plants and all new stuff.
A 20 year old truck requires common sense.

This is not good advice. Proper torque is important. It is easy to over tighten the valve cover bolts and strip them.

My facebook is Boris Renspeed, if anyone in SE Ohio needs help, or wants to come ride.
No beer drinking on my ranch, just good clean fun.

29lb/ft and I would not have said it if it were not the case. Glad you caught it because this ain't your grandpas 1950 Pontiac.

For $480 + tax, my head looks like this now...
