I am about to start my heater core replacement, I bought a spare car for $500 to daily as I know this is going to be a PIA. I'll enter it in the Gambler500 when I'm done with it.

Any thoughts on after market heater cores? I'm already running an Amazon radiator.
Just ordered new metal T's
Thoughts?

Heater cores rarely leak on these, unless improperly maintained. Like adding tap water to coolant system or never flushing. I'd make 100 % sure first.

I'd not want to take change on aftermarket.

Is your heater core is leaking? When I bought mine it was partially clogged and heat is poor. Then I treated it with 9% vinegar over 2 weeks. Now it is blowing hot air!

+1 for a full price OEM heater core. I had a leak and had to replace mine, it is an unbelievable amount of work to get the heater core out. I gambled and went cheap with an aftermarket core that leaked immediately upon startup. Most heartbreaking thing I've experienced in my time wrenching. lol. Pic is where you'll end up by the time you are ready to replace the heater core. I added sound insulation while i was there

Now that you've R&R twice. Do you see anyway possible to sneak the core out, without pull the dash out?

WOW, I had no idea it was that labor intensive to do the heater core on a 100.
really hope I don't need to do one.

what kind of time does it take to do it once?

^^^^

It looks to be an incredible amount of work. I'm 65 yrs. old at present, not sure I'd live to get it all back together.

It is one of the main reason I pound the table and get on my soap box "Flush the coolant system on time". I use Toyota coolant, and never ever put even one drop of tap-water in the system, not even to flush. Only distilled water!

I recently did an evaporator on my wife's Jeep JK.. same work required for the heater core.. however, there was not a single thing is left on the dash, and took me (with the manual) 2 full days of wrenching to complete. I also had to pull the upper intake/harness/battery tray. In short, I've pulled/replaced engines with less fuss.

Hopefully I'll never have to do this job on the cruiser

I currently have no heat in my LX. Ice cold air con but if I change the temperature it remains freezing. Any ideas?

Can you also elaborate on the vinegar fix please?

It's essentially a flush of the system with a mild (acetic) acid. Should clean out any gunk and tackle any mild corrosion. Kind of a hassle, but NOTHING like blowing the whole dash apart.

Double check its not the air mix servo under the dash. When mine was acting up it was either stuck on cold or stuck on hot.

The truck is built around the heater core.

Thanks Mate, will do, I get a loud buzzing from in the dash for 10 seconds every time I start the old girl. Sounds like a pump making pressure but definitely inside the dash (nothing to do with brakes)
