During installation I left off the small section of exhaust manifold to give me room to precisely and carefully install the large section. I did not want to bang up and wiring or plumbing. I did measure before I did this to make sure I had room to still slip in the short manifold section. There is plenty of room. This approach was very easy and manageable. Once the large section was in and loosely secured I then installed the small section. A little o-ring grease to hold the metal collar in place was applied since it kept trying to move on me.

It's cool seeing a bunch of new parts going together.
New OEM turbo would not have been my personal choice, but I ain't mad at it

You mention the oil supply/return pipe, did you use a new one? The early ones were prone to cracking the oil supply line at the flange.
Superseded by an assembly that had a gusset welded between the feed and return

My 1HDT is later year (1997) and already had the updated pipe. I checked it thoroughly and cleaned it well. Thanks for the reminder though. Very important item for others doing similar work.

I wired up the @Lutz Auto gauge to EGT, Boost, and Outside Temp. I had same color wiring as the short harness provided by Lutz.

The pyrometer was connected directly to the gauge but the length of provided cable was short about 3 feet for my LHD. I extended them to reach the gauge without putting any strain on the cabling.

For boost I used an OEM tee and vacuum hose. I had to make an adapter to fit the GM MAP sensor.
Barb Adapter 1/4 to 1/8"
1/4" Petroleum Hose

The temperature probe has not yet been connected but I ran the wiring for it to the engine bay. I am planning to use an OEM LX450/Collectors Edition sensor that mounts just behind the bumper

All the wiring was secured in abrasion sleeves and secured to various points.

Looks great, where did you find the entire manifold? I need to swap out, as well as the cooling piping. Thanks.

I got the short section from a US dealer. 17142-17h00. Fred Anderson Toyota

The long section came from Partsouq.

I posted this photo earlier in the thread and have since reached out to Torqit to inquire about the 316 stainless markings. This exhaust is supposed to be fully 304 stainless.
Torqit points out multiple benefits of 304 over 316 on their webpage and advertising materials so I knew something was off. They replied back to my inquiry after some investigation with a note that their fabrication team "had to modify the build". I don't know what that means but can only guess they were short on materials. They offered to honor their warranty even though the material was not as advertised. I made a few points that I sourced their exhaust for 304 specifically knowing there are others who vendors who can make it from 316. They now have a replacement section on the way to me.
I do wonder if they made sections of exhausts for other with non-304 stainless. I will report back once the part arrives.

I did put on a few hundred miles (highway/city) with the new exhaust and its much louder than the stock. Turbo whistle is present and the drone at certain RPM is there and somewhat annoying. I am not sure I am fully satisfied for daily driving with it. Will give it some time.

Out of curiosity - Does anyone have an OEM tailpipe section that has not been cut? I am looking for it.

What other high flow but not drastically louder exhaust options are there?

Ok so I commented earlier in this thread as I ordered a Torqit exhaust too during BF sale but it fell thru/they ghosted me.
I reached out to Superior Engineering for a LegendX exhaust and opted for the system WITH the resonator.
After install there was noticable tone at the turbo elbow I could hear while driving. Wasn't a deal breaker as the rest of the system sounded great/wasnt that loud. (Although I was sightly dreading my planned CO trip in Sept)
Because I can't leave $hit alone I had Superior Eng order me the Berserker pipe so I could hear all the diesel things.
Strange results, noticeably quitter at the engine/turbo side during highways speeds (which I was worried about.) I like it.
Idle isn't loud at all and if I really wanna hear some whistle I just get heavy on the skinny pedal.
So my conclusion is I should have just ordered the Berserkit Kit from the get go.

Who are you buying through?
Did you/your customer opt for a muffler or resonator? Assuming also there was a resonator in engine pipe?

Yes it has the resonator,

20k miles on it too in that pic, obviously we cleaned it up but that right there is 304!

Yes it has a muffler too. I don’t recall how we got it shipped over, it was purchased in 2020/21.

Cheers

Resonator is a term that is typically misused. It gets generically used to refer to a muffler at the rear.

I've built two exhausts for my diesel cruisers.
1st one was done with no mufflers, and it sounded dreadful. I added two mufflers. A large one under the 2nd row seats, and one at the rear.
It made it a lot quieter.
After this experience, the next system I made, I started by designing around the largest muffler I could practically fit under the 2nd row, and at the rear.
2nd one was really quiet, but when you stepped on it, you'd hear it.

There's no reason not to run mufflers. Performance doesn't need to be impacted at all. Run full flow, full size mufflers to match three test of your system, gas flow is no different to straight pipe.

There's pics in my turbo project thread

The Torqit exhaust I have is pretty loud, turbo whistle is evident as well. I think it only has the one resonator forward just aft of the down pipe.

The replacement downpipe from Torqit arrived in just a few days. Impressive. It is made from 304 stainless.

However, I have decided to pursue an exhaust from Beaudesert based on @SNLC and @jomelo as well as non-Mud reviews. This build is aiming for something quiet.
I opted for 304 stainless with a resonator in the engine pipe and the round muffler.

One review I read compares the decibel of a factory exhaust to the Beaudesert and its very close. See full article here

I am working with @AussieHJCruza to purchase the Beaudesert exhaust and have it shipped to the US. Hoping to get it soon. Thanks again, Ed!
