Bought our white 97 CE with difflocks and no effing roofrack or running boards new in Jan 1998. I'm in the SF bay area and the salesman drove down to LA to pick it up from another dealer (trading a 4runner and some $$ I'm sure). The 100 series IFS 'cars' were hitting the lots and it was tough to get what I wanted (which is the above spec), none left in that configuration at any of the SF bay area dealers.

cheers,
george.

I have a...better write what is on the tag...
HDJ80L-GNPEX
1HD-T 4164
HDJ80-0003765

1A6 FN10
A442F K295
A11

My guess is model, then engine, then VIN then no idea, then trans, then diff option and last...errr color?

Am I the only one with a 40th that finds the fonts and graphic design on the 40th badging fugly?

I always look at the 40 quater and the badge next to the shifter (on the fake wood) and think: Why does this look like Toyota infringed on the trademark of a defunct investment bank on long island?

I do love 1B2!!!

@Super Cruiser can you confirm whether or not all US spec 80 series from 91-97 came equipped with cruise control. I ordered my 92 without cruise and I'm told it is the only one in existence. I know it doesn't really matter but I'm just curious.

'92's don't count. :P

May I ask why?

I was 16. I cut any options I could to save money. No running boards. No roof rack. No moonroof. No cruise control.

IIRC, cruise was an $85 option. And those were the only four options available from the factory.

I'm impressed you bought your '92 brand new at age 16, but I think I would have found a way to order it with CC, and I'm partial to my sunroofs as well, lol.

Sunroofs are an absolute nightmare on 80s. I wanted a utilitarian vehicle with as few things to go wrong as possible. If you look at the most desirable 80s now they are factory rigs without sunroof, roof racks, and running boards.

I just drove 4400 miles in 11 days on a trip with my son. Never used the cruise on my 93. I like to be in control of the vehicle.

I will be deleting my moonroof on my 93 when I repaint or monstaline it. No need for it IMO.

Any tips on keeping the moonroof from giving me problems? I don't have the factory roof rack, but my moonroof seems totally fine. Usually don't let the blower at the drive thru car wash hit it very hard, but I don't know what else I should do to keep it functioning.

Nope. 20+ year rubber seal on a horizontal surface exposed to the sun all of the time. I sealed mine closed with urethane roof sealant.

Maybe someone has some pointers.

My truck was always garaged, almost all the time for the last ten years. I also live in an area that doesn't see a lot of real hot sunny days. All the rubber on my truck is pretty good, but I would say there are some issues with the rear sliders. Not sure if I want to care about that much. Moonroof is fine though.

Damn! Besides that color looking really nice, it really makes me not want to cover it in monstaliner.
Man, a Nightshadow CE with lockers is 1 of my top 3 80s, don't cover it up! I saw one that was lifted with bumpers and 35s, totaled in a junk yard recently. It had rolled over. :crybaby:

Nice, thats another in my top 3, probably number uno in my book, the Super White CE. Along with a Nightshadow CE and the Antique Sage 40th of course.

I have door E lockers :flipoff2:97 leather CC and soon HP via the 6BT in my avitar :hillbilly:

Ive got a 97 desert dune CE with lockers. Was dropping my f350 off at a shop yesterday and there was a stock 97 desert dune CE sitting in the lot. Wasn't in great shape and I didn't go look for the magic dial, but I am going to inquire about it tomorrow.
