Double locked 40th No. 2491 here in sage w/center diff lock added. Thanks for posting all that information! I just drove my new (used) 97 FZJ80 home to Nevada and plan on doing baseline PM and PHH replacement, then get to upgrades and mods.

1997 Collectors Edition with Desert Dune and Moonglow Pearl w/factory lockers. VIN- 183468
Looked all over the West Coast for a couple months and finally found what I was looking for! First picture is the day I drove her home, and the second picture is how the CE is now; Slinky springs, Fox Shocks, 35’s w/Tundra rims.

Well, this is interesting. It appears I have one of the 24 Moonglow Pearl 97 CEs with factory lockers. It was originally a lease vehicle in KC, off lease ended up in Wichita at a private dealer/auto broker, then appeared for sale at a local Volvo dealership here in Wichita.

I bought it in 02 with 55,000 miles on it and have had it ever since. Right now it has around 146,000 miles on it and is still in good shape.

It is not for sale. As long as I am alive.

Great thread. I find it really interesting to get a peek into the late stage manufacturing of these awesome trucks.

I've got a 1997 CE with VIN ending in 85603. The OP stated the last CE VIN was 88468 and that 2616 CEs were built. My VIN differs from the last VIN by 2865, which is greater than the number of CE trucks built.

My guess is that non-CE trucks were also being built at the same time, so the VINs were mixed between the models? So it's not actually possible to say something like "I have 1997 LC CE #10" without more info?

Again, I find this data interesting so just curious.

....The OP stated the last CE VIN was 88468 and that 2616 CEs were built. My VIN differs from the last VIN by 2865...

I wonder where mine falls because my VIN is pretty close to the "end" being 83468 and the last CE being 88468. I wonder if the OP could provide some clarification on my number since the numbers are pretty close to the same.

· The Collector Edition was the second to be produced and was built between 7/31/1997 and 1/21/1998. In fact, the very last of the 1997 model year Land Cruisers built for the US market was a Collector Edition with VIN ending in 188468...

Any clarification on VIN's from the last couple post?

The VIN will definitely tell you if it had the CE package, but you dont need the dealer for that, enter VIN in Toyota.com/owners and pull up the specs and it will show all the options it came with.

Ive never seen a 40th or CE without Automatic climate control.

My CE did not have wood dash trim, running boards, rear spoiler or roof rack. How common was that configuration?

Please note that not all US market VIN numbers will be sequential, due to the fact that LCs destined for other markets are coming off the same production line.

Fairly rare, usually an ordering mistake at the Toyota Region office. Mine was also roof rack and rear spoiler delete. I’m glad to not have holes in my roof.

I’ve wondered if that had anything to do with a later build, 9/97.

Mine was ordered 9/97, and I have no wood trim. But do have roof rack, spoiler & running boards.

That's what I was wondering. Thanks for the confirmation.

What a nice mistake 20+ years on!!! I’ve got a 40th with no running boards, no rack, no spoiler. No rusty holes. No lockers.

Just looked mine up. 10/97 and I had a lower vin number. I have the boards, rack, etc. mine spent its life in TX. No rust.

Well...except for that giant hole above the drivers head. :bang: If I could find 1 of the 4 Sage 40th's without a sunroof I'd pay pretty good money to acquire it. I don't suppose you have access to the VINs for these b/c I have a buddy who can..... :hmm:

I like my sunroof. I like being in the mountains with it open.

Have a 40th in Sage with drivers rear quarter panel & flare effed. Considering the collectible nature of these rigs, will a deflared/raptor lined mod hurt the value down the line? Currently feeling like I'd love to fully restore this rig, but also catching a tinge of 'restomod' fever...

Anyone care to throw a pair of pennies at me in either direction?
