!!PLEASE HELP!!
Hello everyone -
I'm a new active participant of this forum however had used it many times to help learn how to accomplish some of the minor fixes I've needed to perform on my 1997 Limited Edition LC. I've owned this vehicle for 16 years and love it and look forward to another 16!
Recently the LC overheated and was leaking. The leak was found (by a friend and retired BMW mechanic) to be in the metal lines into the rear heater core. He suggested that we could bypass the rear core and it would be an 'easy fix' rather than try to replace the metal lines. I went with that option which appeared to work ok for a short time. Last night the vehicle was 'choking' at an idol, started to leak and I barely go it home. When I did the temperature was rising and when I opened the hood it looked like the leak/steam was coming from the hoses below the egr valve, which I believe are the hoses that were bypassed. Prior to bypassing I directed him to THIS forum where I read it was important to be sure to bypass it in a certain way (to complex for my abilities) which he said he followed - but thought there was still air that needed to be burped out of the system
I can get pictures or video's posted to this thread if you tell me what would be helpful to add.
Short questions are:
Has anyone had this experience?
What is the best way to correct this, both with and without bypassing the rear heater core?
I really don't want to take it to the dealer and get reamed $$$.
Thanks for listening and I look forward to hearing your feedback.
Steve
